I was wondering if anyone can recommend what to use on WLE scar to soften , it’s five weeks since surgery, also what’s best to use for after radiotherapy, I’ve heard aloe Vera gel is good but then read something against it
I suppose the radiotherapist might advise on what’s best just wanted to ask if anyone thought something they used was effective
I can’t specifically recommend anything for your scar, however I know a lot of ladies like using Bio-oil, I’d always intended to start using it on mine but found I didn’t need to (mine follows the edge of my aerola and is therefore not very noticeable)
The latest thinking on moisturisers for radiotherapy is you don’t need anything special: if you currently regularly use a moisturiser just keep using what your skin is used to (there’s an argument for saying that changing might cause a reaction to the cream rather than the RT) but be more liberal and apply more often: I was slapping it on 3 times a day!
If don’t regularly use a moisturiser then any non-perfumed moisturiser should be fine. Lots of ladies like Aveeno (personally I found it too thick and not easily absorbed) and opted for a Neutrogena one for dry/sensitive skin. In addition to moisturising it’s important to stay hydrated to minimise skin reaction
If you’d like to look for some more advice and guidance on what you can to help yourself I would recommend checking out rad_chat on Instagram they are two therapeutic radiologists with lots of really helpful and easy to understand information for all things radiotherapy related
Wishing you all the best with the next stage of your treatment
I used Bio oil before starting RT and found it very effective. I finished my Radiotherapy in August and my skin wasn’t too bad, but with some burning & itching. I want to recommend the cream developed by UK radiographer Jasmin Jones. It doesn’t contain any of the ingredients we are told to avoid, is vegan friendly and is so good. It’s not too light or heavy and soothes my skin so well. I’m so glad I treat myself to it.
