I have a holiday booked at the end of July but it looks like I won’t be able to go due to rads. I booked the flights(monarch) pre BC. I was wondering if anyone has been successful in getting refunds from either the airline or credit card company. I do not have holiday insurance.

I haven’t any experience of claiming because of BC, but got stuck in India during the ash cloud fiasco. The airline (Virgin) were slow to respond but gave us a refund on flights we couldn’t take. I am also grounded thanks to a recurrent pneumothorax but haven’t had to cancel any flights as I hadn’t booked any!
I guess it depends on the airline and the type of ticket you booked; getting a letter from your doctor to say you can’t go, the reason, and making it clear that the dx and tx plan came after you booked the flights might help. I think you might need to try the airline first and if no luck there try the credit card company.

Hi I have no experience, but I do know that an awful lot of your flight fare will be tax. Hopefully they will do a full refund but if they are awkward it is worth knowing that they are legally bound to refund the tax you will have paid on your flight.
