Hi Everyone. I was diagnosed in July. I’m triple negative so will be chemo first and I’m due to start on Monday 29th September.
I was just wondering if anyone had any advice. I recently made a claim on my critical illness policy through Aviva and it was declined because I had forgot to mention an ultrasound referral for spotting in between being accepted for insurance and the policy going on risk. Has anyone else had similar issues?

Hi Emerald , welcome to the forum sorry I can’t help with your query hopefully someone with experience of dealing with insurance companies and challenging their decisions will be able to point you in the right direction . It might be a good idea to edit your post and remove your full name to protect you and your families privacy this is a public forum so anyone can read what you post and you can easily be identified from your name. Best of luck with your treatment .

Thanks @Jill1998 thats very kind of you but I’m quite happy to be identified on this one and shame them!
I was declined critical illness for my first diagnisis of DCIS in 2004. I had to cancel my policy in the years after that but now have had a recurrence. They said dcis was not covered because it wasnt invasive but i now question that if it wasnt invasive how could it recur after 21 years! Especially since i initially had a mastectomy. They are a law unto themselves these insurance companies
Hi , don’t blame you from feeling that way re insurance company but you may find you are sharing very personal things further down the line with your treatment that you don’t particularly want to share with your family / friends so personally I would edit your name to make you less identifiable across all your posts on the forum ?

Not sure how spotting and breast cancer can be related but if they can get out of paying then they probably will .If you have answered no to a question that you should have answered yes to then unfortunately they are probably within their rights. I should double check dates in case there’s a discrepancy - for example if a letter re the ultrasound / appointment that led to the referral reached you much later or was later than the date stated etc. I have had two bad experiences with Aviva as regards car insurance and I wouldn’t touch them now for anything even if they were the cheapest. You could maybe try MacMillan they help with all kinds of financial issues . Xx
