When I was diagnosed I had forgotten that I had critical illness cover and a Well Woman insurance for female cancers never thought they would pay out but they did so chuffed. I had these for about 17 years, would advise anyou woman to take them out.
Hi Im due a matectomy (terrified) because of invasive BC im just about to look at my critical illness cover which 've had for 10 years. But I have put a good few stone on in weight since then . I’m wondering if they will use this not to pay out. Has any one experienced this. X
Dear Candie
When I got in touch with my insurance company they never asked about weight. All they zoned in on was that it was cancer. In the form all they asked questions about was the cancer. They wanted to know my consultants name and doctors name, hospital and could they have access to my medical records. Once reports had been received from my consultant about my diagnosis and treatment I would need they weren’t long in paying out. It was so nice to get the insurance money as I was 8 months off work and it took the pressure off knowing that we hadn’t to worry about money. I recovered quickly after surgery this was the first operation I’ve ever had so I was terrified as well. Good luck with your surgery, treatment and your application.
Thankyou michelle that is very helpful to know. I will be calling them soon. X
Hi Candie
Call them tomorrow, get the ball rolling. It will be one less worry on your mind. X
Thank you Michelle but sadly critcal illness cover is not likely to be available to most of the people on this site unless they already had it like yourself. I have strongly advised my Son and Daughter in Law to take it out.
I was diagnosed in 2012. Chemo, surgery x 3 (second re construction still to go) Radiotherapy…2 years Tamoxifen then Letrazole now for 3 years + 5 more delightful years to go. I’ve had every therapy known to man…
I have manged to return to work, have a decent job and a good prognosis 5 years now NED but i still can’t get any insurance.
I have a life Policy which i have had for 30 yrs plus… the premiums have tripled for the same cover… I am only 55 and we decided to move house 2 yrs ago. Again the mortgage is only based on my Husbands salary, they wouldn’t consider my salary despite havifng an NHS pension which has a Death in Service benefit of Salary x 2…
So i would urge anybody who has got it to claim and to tell as many other people they can to take it out.
