Cruise booked in Dec

My husband and I have a cruise booked for a week in December and am wondering if anyone has been on Letrozole and Ibrance for a while and if the side effects would prevent me from going? As I

have been on Letrozole for almost 2 weeks but not yet started on Ibrance. They are waiting for the results of my Petscan and bloods before I start.I have secondary breast cancer in my left breast, the same place I had my original cancer 17 yrs ago,I had a wedge and lymph nodes removed plus Tamoxifen and radiotherapy. So far I am ok on the Letrozole but is Ibrance harsher? Many thanx

Hi. I have been in letrezole for 2 months with no side effects and started palbociclib 3 weeks ago plus denosumab. My breast cancer came on 10 years ago and I had the same treatment as you did. It has now returned in same breast and bones too. I had no symptoms until into my third week of palbociclib when I became absolutely exhausted. I had my bloods checked last week and my neutrophils were 0.4 which meant I had to come off the Palbo and told to stay off work and get plenty of rest. I am currently on holiday in Ibiza which I was determined to go on! It is a side effect of this drug unfortunately, and when I have my second injection next week, my oncologist said he would give me a reduced dose. It’s all trial and error for a couple of months I think. You will be settled into the routine and your body adjusted to it by the time of your cruise in December. Enjoy! My holiday was probably a bit too soon after starting treatment and the oncologist and nurses were concerned about me picking up an infection from the air con on the plane. I must admit I have developed a sore throat and do still feel tired…so not partying too hard!..but dont want to let this illness take over my life and I will carry on as normal for as long as I can! Good luck with your treatment. Xx

Hi Bev, I hope that you tolerate the Palbociclib ok. Unfortunately it’s taken a year for my body to accept it. I’m on the minimum dose (75mcg) with a longer rest period of two weeks.  My Onco has now given me permission to travel outside the uk, and I needed a letter from him for my insurance company. My neutrophils kept crashing, and I was either in hospital every month, or in bed with chest infections in the beginning. My mets are in my lungs, and if anyone even breathed on me during my low period I was ill. For the first few months I had to have weekly blood tests. So lots of trips to the hospital. Not what you want to hear, but you know that we all respond very differently. I would suggest you take antibiotics with you, just in case, and that you are really sensible in avoiding infections by contact. I’ve got my fingers and toes crossed for you. Enjoy that cruise. X

Hello,

Just wanted to say that I’ve been on Palbociclib for nearly 18 months, neutrophils down as a rule and have to take a week off. Anyway, went on a cruise in August and all was fine, no problems at all, just a bit tired now and then. The holiday itself was therapeutic so, from my point of view, enjoy!

been on palbo and letrozole since april 2018 only missed second dose and one 3 cycles ago due to low neutrophils my treatment was just delayed by a week and bloods checked again and neutrophils were above 1. Had a bit of nausea initially but went on lansoprazole for gastric systems prescribed by hospital. Also searched American and Canadian websites where palbociclib was available for 6 years some people used Astragalus for help with immunity have been taking this since May 2018 also take turmeric capsules the ones with circumin black pepper which some people recommend. Get my herbal stuff from local shop or Holland and Barret. Dose of palbo 125mgs and 3 monthly scan show shrinking of 4 of 6 tumours things stable for now. Got secondaries in lungs spine and pelvis. I take my palbo at night and letrozole at lunchtime. Hope this helps and relax as much as you can and enjoy,I have been on 5 trips away with my daughter and granddaughter and husband with no problems. Love and hugs Liz xoxo
