I had a lumpectomy in April followed by lymphoedema in the breast and arm. In the last few days I have found that my nipple is dry and crusty. I’ve been wearing a lymphoedema bra day and night. What can I do about it and should I worry?
Hi longmuir1949,
Thanks for your post.
Lymphoedema compression garments are designed to encourage lymph fluid to drain away from the affected area to help to reduce existing swelling and prevent further swelling. Some compression bras are designed to be worn just in the day time, whilst others can be worn at night.
As the dry crusty area is new, we would always suggest you speak with your breast care nurse or lymphedema specialist, as will be best placed to advise you if you can remove the garment at night, and also to assess whether this is irritation from the compression garment.
We offer a range of free supportive services for anyone who has had a diagnosis of breast cancer which you may be interested in. They include face to face and online courses and events.
