Ct scan after radiotherapy

I’ve just finished my 5 sessions of radiotherapy and have been called for a ct scan ( the notification of the appointment arrived on day 3.) i was led to believe follow up would be in 4-6 weeks. Does this mean something else has been found? I originally had a lumpectomy for a DCIS which was larger than expected and a lobular cancer was also found requiring a second lumpectomy

Hi

I had a ct scan during radiotherapy as something was seen at my radiotherapy planning so I knew I would be having one.

Mine was a cyst on one of my kidneys.

Hope you get some answers soon

I am planning to speak to my review radiographer who may be able to give me more information. I’ll let you know.

Hi Chillout365. I’ve spoken to the review radiographer this morning. It appears that , similar to you, there is a cyst on my kidney. Not unusual apparently. The ct scan this week is apparently “routine not urgent” . I’m not sure if I should have been told but I understand the BCN will call me sometime today. Puts my mine at ease slightly.

Hi

That’s good to hear, like I said mine was picked up at the planning ct scan but because I hadn’t had contrast dye fir that I needed to have a ct scan with contrast.

I was also told like you that it is very common and it’s only found by accident like we have found.

Hope all goes ok for you this week

Xx

Hi kasper

It’s natural to be anxious about an unexpected appointment for a CT scan. It sounds from your further post that you have now spoken to the review radiographer this morning who has been able to reassure you a little.

Its not unusual for scans to highlight something, such as a kidney cyst, that then needs further checking even though kidney cysts are a common finding in normal kidneys. It sounds as though @chillout365 had a similar experience. Hopefully your breast care nurse can give you further reassurance today. It may be that as it was a non-urgent scan your treatment team thought they had plenty of time to talk to you before you got the appointment.
