CT scan contrast allergy

Hi, I was diagnosed in October and had a mastectomy in December. I’m due to start chemo soon but had a CT scan this week.

I’ve had a delayed allergic reaction to the contrast dye. I had a CT scan at the end of December and 2 days later had a mild itchy rash but didn’t link the 2, I just thought it was a random reaction to something and nothing, but having had the same but much more severe reaction this time I’m wondering if I’m actually allergic to the iodine contrast dye.

It started behind my ear and rapidly spread round my neck and face, it was itchy, bumpy, red and hot. It then spread the back of my neck, chest and onto my tummy. My tummy didn’t itch though. I went to the GP surgery where I’ve been advised to take 4 X the usual dose of antihistamines each day.

This morning the itching is less but my skin is so sore and every single bump in the rash now has a whitehead on it

Has anyone experienced this? I’m meeting my oncologist on Monday so will let them know and show them photos if how it’s progressed but it’s just making me miserable

Bless you - that is beyond miserable . I haven’t experienced this but have met people who have had quite nasty reactions to the contrast . Make sure when you have your appointment that they add it to your records that you have had a severe adverse reaction - but should also consider contacting your BCN on Monday and reporting it . They might be able to get some advice from the Radiology team. If you get further symptoms in the meantime then speak to your GP again but I’m hoping that you will start to feel better soon xx
