had my latest scan results today. The past six years I’ve had SBC in my 5th&6th rib. Oncologist phoned today to say the Ct scan report had mentioned 3rd&6th rib but no mention in the 5th rib. Oncologist thinks it’s a typing error on the report. He said it has to go back to MDT meeting and will have to wait a week on Monday for him to call me back because of the bank holiday. All organs and bloods are fine. Anyone else had anything like a typing error.
I have spinal mets at L2/3. Just over 2 years ago I was told there was some activity at C2 on my latest MRI and they would keep an eye on it. At my last appointment with the consultant in January 2022 she told me nothing had changed and I asked about the C2 area. She told me that in fact nothing was there and it was just artefact on that particular scan. I wish someone had thought to tell me before then! It was good news but even so. As far as typos go I guess they are human and at least they picked it up for double checking. I used to work as a medical secretary and all reports and letters are meant to be checked by the person who dictated them but sometimes mistakes creep in and documents go out uncorrected. All the best xx
Yes, the odd typo, different impression given or sometimes a new area mentioned to keep an eye on, which turns out to be nothing at the next scan.
I’ve concluded it’s just the ambiguity in the nature of scans & the pressure the system is under. Main thing is your team are on top of checking & willing to explore discrepancies.
I know what you mean about wishing someone had told you sooner though.
The third routine CT scan I had after diagnosis opened by saying I’d had my left kidney removed. My oncologist and I laughed about it and I assumed it would be amended. Breast/kidney - they sound very similar don’t they! I had to see a different oncologist at my next appointment and she started by discussing necrosis. I nearly had a dicky fit, especially since my tumour is behind the bridge of my nose/eye socket, then worked it out - but she would not take my word for it that I had 2 perfectly healthy kidneys till she viewed the scans. It took an email to the head of the radiology department to get it corrected! Now I’m passing a very painful kidney stone from that blessed kidney - things come back to bite you. Basically a report is only as good as the radiologist analysing the scans and the transcription - so yes, there might well be a typo. Your oncologist actually only has to look at the scans themselves to find out! Fingers crossed x
Thanks all. Radiography phoned today. Oncologist has requested another Ct scan. I’m a bit puzzled why he can’t just look at the last Ct scan himself. So more waiting.
