Cysts...the on-going saga

Anyone else suffer from cysts?

Both my breasts were packed full of them.

I had a mastectomy (unrelated to cysts) in April, so that’s reduced them by half(!). I’ve just had two large ones appear which were treated by aspiration yesterday.

I normally get two or three appear at a time and then after a couple of months, another batch pops up. After that, there’s normally a break for a year before the cycle continues.

One doctor suggested Evening Primrose Oil, but the consultant I saw yesterday said I’d be wasting my money.

Anyone else suffer with them? I’ve got used to it, but my friends and family find any problem connected to my remaining breast stressful - in fact, I normally just trot off and get them sorted. However, yesterday I had to cancel something because they were sore and the friend didn’t take the news well.

Hello
Yes I’ve had cysts on and off for years although not as many as you seem to have. I’ve had several aspirated and one removed surgically because even though they did a needle biopsy the result was inconclusive.

When I found the lump which turned out to be cancer I was at first completely unconcerned as I thought it was just another cyst. But the radiologist took one look and said ‘that’s not a cyst !’
I had a WLE and ANC for the cancer so still have both my breasts and I still have cysts sometimes. They keep an eye on the cysts and say they don’t need to do anything about them as long as they aren’t too painful.

I had a mammogram and ultrasound a couple of weeks ago when I had my 6 monthly checkup - which showed nothing worrying thank goodness. I asked about one big painful cyst which they’ve been keeping an eye on for 4 or 5 years and it seems to have disappeared.

My breast surgeon did recommend Evening primrose oil to help with the pain. I’ve never been sure if it helps or not but I have a friend who takes 1000mg per day and says she knows immediately if she misses a dose as her breasts are much more painful. It might be worth you trying it for a couple of months to see if it helps.
Good luck

I have had frequent cysts for 35 yrs.I used to have them drained about twice a year and one was removed surgically because they couldnt get a needle into it.They became less frequent post menopause but last year I had a real panic about possible recurrence which turned out to be a cyst which was drained.Once you have had bc you are always worried.

Thank you! I’m starting the EPO tonight.
