Hi,
I’m new here and tbh I never thought I’d be posting in this kind of forum. So it’s all new too me and I have been reading through some topics and everyone seems so lovely and supportive.
A little about me, I’m 32 (well I will be in just over 2 weeks) and I have 4 children ranging from 23 months to 10+ years.
On sunday morning after my shower I was checking myself and to my horror my right breast produced a very dark (almost black looking) discharge, however, when wiped with a bit of white tissue it was a brown colour. My breast is a bit tender and I’ve had a pain in my chest since October (it goes from the middle of my chest across to the right, then right through to my back) and my dr seems to think it is a muscle)
I called my dr surgery and I was seen on Wednesday. My gp had a feel and said my breast felt inflamed and the discharge was blood (she didn’t actually see the discharge but I generally know brown means old blood) and she has referred me to the breast clinic and I’m awaiting an appointment.
I’m absolutely terrified of what it might be and what they will do. I know I have a lot on my side eg. age, no. of children I’ve had, and the fact that I’ve breastfed 3 of my children for between 14-19 months.
I know my mum suffered from cysts but that was it as far as I’m aware.
I’d appreciate any advice from other people who have the same thing.
Many thanks for taking the time to read this xx
I’ve read about papilomas but I’ve also read other case scenarios.
I’m sure lots of ladies will be along with their advice soon. Keeping everything crossed for you at your appointment and hoping yours is not BC.
My first symptom was a creamy greeny discharge from the nipple which crusted every day. I ignored it for 2 years thinking it was side effect from another drug I took for something unrelated as it was mentioned on the side effects leaflet! Last year I had a more brown discharge on the other breast…all hell broke loose at the clinic but it was found to be clear and nothing at all to worry about. My advice is ALWAYS get ANY discharge checked out to be on the safe side. I really hope yours is ok and try not to worry (easier said than done I know)
Hi Hopeful …your story is similar to mine I noticed a brown stain on bras and nightdresses for a while but as we all do I put off going to see doc (DANGEROUS)but when my nipples got v itchy and sore I scratched till they bled my daughter dragged me to my gp at first there was concern that it was Pagets Disease which thank God it wasnt I had eczema on the nipple and infected milk ducts which were discharging and bleeding that was the discharge that I had to cut a long story short I am in hospital for duct removal on Monday because of my Diabetes I have to be in hospital for a few days but non diabetics have this done in day surgery if anyone has had this done I would appreciate any info/feedback e.g. how long is healing process etc I am scared…but I feel very guilty and selfish feeling like this after reading what some ladies have gone through I hope everything goes well with you and that its nothing to worry about …take care xx
Hi Just wanted to reply to reassure you that it is not an unusual thing to happen. Two years ago exactly the same happend to me. I was in the shower and suddenly noticed some dark black/green discharge. Went to the doctor who found blood in it.
Like you I was obviously worried, and it is certainly something that needs investigated.
Mine however was a result of an inter ductal papilloma. I went in to get the duct removed (general anesthetic and now have small scar around the nipple), and had a biopsy on it which was clear. breastcancercare.org.uk/breast-cancer-breast-health/diagnosis/benign/intraductal-papilloma/
Thank you so much for your replies and I’m very happy to hear that yours was nothing serious.
My appointment came through this morning for Thursday 3rd so I’ve only got to wait a few days.
I was thinking that it could be a papiloma or possibly some kind of infection.
I guess I’ll just have to wait until Thursday and see what they say.
