David et al!!

David et al!!

David et al!! Hi

Owing to a further period of ill health (in addition to the 2 new knees- a result of the damage to my bones caused by the chemo - I’m now sporting a new hip & have just been diagnosed with osteoporosis), I’ve been away from the board for some time.

I was prompted to re-register the other day when I saw an item on ‘This Morning’ tv in which it was proposed during one of the items that if you’re going to get cancer ‘breast is best’. I winged off an e-mail explaining that it certainly wasn’t my experience considering the ramifications of mastectomy, FEC treatment and 5 years on Tamoxifen. Amazing that, after throwing myself around a rugby field for most of my early years with only a broken nose to show for it, I fall over (sober!) on my garden lawn and end up with another replacement joint!

Despite having an absolutely great employer and team of colleagues who have supported me immensely over the last few years, I’ve accepted that I’m no longer able to do myself nor my work justice and will retire early (I’m 54) next month.

This means, David, that if you ever want to treat a poor pensioner to a pint of Tetley’s one lunchtime when work sends you over to Leeds from the hinterland of t’uddersfield, let me know!

I hope you’re all well.

I’ll catch up with all your old posts in due course.

Cheers

Jim

p.s. Still a ‘Red’, David.

Hi Jim Hello Jim,
Nice to see a “new face”, so to speak, on the forum. I need to clarify one thing - is it you that is the Red, or David? My wife is manc and Blue through and through, in fact she would say “I’d rather be dead than Red!”

Best wishes

Brian

Crumbling bones Hi Jim

What a story! Sorry to hear that all these things have happened to you. Like you, I have osteoporosis now and I take ARIMIDEX. That was the culprit for me. Fortunately, I haven’t fallen yet but my poor bones are aching as well and I’m off to see an orhtopaedic surgeon tomorrow to see what can be done.

I take one of the bisphosphonates and I hadeanother bone density scan last week. I can’t take calcium supplements because I make kidney stones on a regular and painful basis. The most recent one arrived when I was visiting Christmas Market in Bavaria, is now being analysed to check it out. Thet tell me also that my uric acid is high because of medication as well. So, I’ll just have to wait and see what can be done for the pain. It’s so debilitating and I’m just a young thing of 50!!

Anyway, enough of my moans. You take care and have good retirement!!

Bill

Jim you old dog Jim - where have you been man - you full of spare parts now - seems like there is nothing left to replace - not heard from you in Years.

There is another guy in Leeds you may be interested to know they call him Chris - maybe we could all meet up and have a wee dram with each other - Jim would love to have a drink with you.

Brian - Jim is not a new face - though he would thank you for that - the Red part is the SALFORD REDS rugby league - not the round ball reds.
We go back to 2004 - Jim and I used to be the only men in this world, before I knew of Bill and yourself - then he vanished (I will be honest Jim - I thought the worst mate) but it looks as though he is back for a while.

Sorry I have not been posting for a few days - had the damn flu - not done anything.
Will try to keep up with things from now on - still havent replied to the fashion show people yet - supposed to be going to London in April - will have to get a move on or else.

Take care all - see you soon

cheers David W

A red in every sense! You’re both (Brian/David) right! Being Salford born and bred, I’m Man U and Salford R.L. red!

I wouldn’t have it any other way. Once you’ve picked a team as a kid (or had it picked for you by your dad!!!) its with you for life! I cant understand how some people can chop and change on a whim.

I hope you’re well - although I see that some of you are experiencing joint pains. I’ve just booked some acupuncture sessions to see if that will alleviate the pain. I haven’t tried it before - have any of you???

I’ve now officially retired - a bit of a wrench but inevitable - and am still up for that pint if possible.

Take care

Jim
