Hi I’m new to this forum.
It all feels like I’ve been in a massive whirlwind I was diagnosed very quickly and I had my surgery on Monday 8th I had a cancerous lump above my breast. When I had my consultation the best option was to have the lumpectomy and lymph nodes removed and to repair the area where the lump would be removed to have a reduction in one breast to fill the hole and even out the breasts. I’ll be honest I had no idea the operation was going to involve such a lot of work. I know I should of done more research but my consultant and plastic surgeon made it sound so straight forward. At the moment I feel I didn’t make the right choice I feel butchered. Has anyone had this procedure and can reassure me that one day my boobs will look normal again. Im feeling very low and angry with myself for not asking more questions
Hi, I had this done beginning of May. Pretty much felt like you do, but it does get better. I’m now 12 weeks in and my boobs are healed and beginning to feel like mine again. Have just finished 3 weeks of radiotherapy so my cancer breast is feeling a bit lumpy and tender, but hopefully by the time I see my surgeon again at the beginning of November everything will be ‘normal’. Keep positive and hang in there girl…it will be all worth it in the end.
Love and hugs
Hello @Treetle
It is entirely understandable that you are feeling they way you are feeling at the moment: the whole experience of being diagnosed and thrust head first into a world none of us want to enter and then being asked to make decisions no one ever thought they would have to make about their bodies is nothing short of a tornado Please don’t beat yourself up!
I had a lumpectomy 12 months ago, but my lump was right behind the nipple so I now have a slight scar around the nipple and a bit of a misshapen boob which I know about but isn’t immediately obvious: it’s never going to look like the other one again! However I’m surprised at how well it has healed and is barely noticeable
Give yourself some time (and then a bit more and a bit more!) it really is the best healer the scars will fade and you will start to feel better ? your body won’t ever be exactly the same as it was before BC, but hopefully you will learn to love your new one.
Wishing you all the best in your recovery and further treatments

PS my tip for aiding healing is taking Vitamin C: when my mum was training as a nurse a surgeon always told his patients to take it, I’ve no idea if it helps but psychologically it can help you feel like you are doing something to help yourself
