Day 3 post op. May I ask for some advice please?

I had a WLI and SNB on Tuesday. The pain is getting worse by the day instead of better. If it’s meant to be like this then I will just get on with it but I have read of other ladies being able to do things after a couple of days.
The pain killers are not touching the sides and I’m in a bit of a state. I just feel terrible and wanted to know if this is normal?.
I dont have a temperature, flu like symptoms or any redness to the breast. I do feel like it it is very swollen around the wound though.
I was given antibiotics when I left the hospital, I presume this was a precaution but they are making me feel awful and give me the most horrendous heartburn. I thought I was having a heart attack wed night it was that bad.
I started my exercises the day after my op but i’m in too much pain now to do them. The only time I am not in pain is when I sit still and dont move a muscle in my body

Hi Funki

Can I suggest that it may be wise to call your BCN for advice on this, if you can’t get through you are welcome to call our helpliners for some support in the meantime on 0808 800 6000, lines open at 9am

Take care and hope you are feeling better very soon

Lucy

Hi Funkilala, im 9 days post surgery and i had the same. I then realised it was do do with not using the loo and constapation. Staff advised it was due to the medication used to relax your muscles during the surgery. I have used fibogel - recommended by my nurse and pepermint tablets from a well known chemist.

Hpoe this is helpful.

I am assuming you are in London I am also in South London if you want to talk via phone.

Thanks Lucy and Caroline 60

I’m in Hertfordshire Caroline 60

I realise that after going to the loo this morning for the first time since Monday it has made a big difference to how I feel in myself. My Daughter brought me something round last night to get things moving and boy did it work. Phew!
However, my main concern is the amount of pain that i’m in where the operation was.
I have just spoken to my BC nurse and I am going to see her at 10.30. She says that the pain shouldn’t be getting worse and she wants to have a look.
Feel much better for posting on here, your replies, going to the loo and getting to see my BC nurse

I will report back when I have seen her

You all rock!
Thank you

The BC nurse took about 100mls of fluid from around the wound. It hasn’t made any difference to the pain unfortunately.
I have changed my pain meds and I seem to have that under control now. She thinks the antibiotics that I’m taking are making me feel so rough but as I have only 2 days left I am going to continue as Id rather feel like this than risk an infection

Now I have a new dilemma. My body is holding so much water? I have gained about 5 pounds since my op and I can feel it all in my legs bottom hips and tummy. It makes my skin feel tight. Has anyone else had this and should I worry?

Thanks in advance for any help

Hi Funki, I am 2 weeks post masectomy. I, too, remember thinking I should have lost a few pounds after the op, as I didn’t have an appetite. Try not to worry about this, it is very early days after your op, and your body will still be adjusting.
I lost approx 4lbs after 5 days post op. Like you, I was constipated from co-codamil, then diahorrea next day after ducolax! Things will settle down. However, pain should be decreasing, I had the odd shooting breast pain for around 10 days. Hope this helps.

Hi Jacx thanks for the reply
This is fluid retention as opposed to weight gain. Its from my feet to my waist. I’m just waiting for the out of hours Dr to call me back.
