Hi Ladies - so didn’t want to be back here again, i was oriinally dx in 2010 with IDC - 3 and half yrs on i’ve now been DX with DCIS on the other breast. I’ve been told its widespread and need another MX. My mind is now in overdrive, have to say not helped by speaking to BCN today who clearly didn’t want to give any unsubstantiated reassurance whatsoever. What is the likelihood of finding an invasive tumour at MX that hasn’t shown on the mammogram to date? (DCIS has been detected from pathology after j wire localisation-following 3 mammos) and what are the chances of lymph node involvement from DCIS? Hope someone can help ladies thanks - terrible how quickly things start to unravel once again.
hello wee friend
i think its about 1 in 10 chance of finding invasive following surgery based biopsy results… if DCIS is low grade it usually equates to grade 1 invasive, and high grade to grade 3 cancer.
even where invasive cancer is diagnosed on biopsy only a very small percentage will have positive lymph nodes… if no invasive then SNB not usually required.
think from what you have described its a very small chance of being upgraded again to invasive and even less likley to be upgraded even more to lymph nodes.
so i can see how your bcn wasnt wanting to commit to anything too reassuring until the final path but think from the info you have described… statistically speaking its unlikely… but like anything… not impossible.
huge hugs sweetheart… here if you need me xxxx
