DCIS experiencing pain

Hi everyone

I was referred to breast screening with a 3.5cm lump in my left breast last week and two days ago biopsy results confirmed high grade DCIS with no indication of anything else going on. I’m having a lumpectomy in 2 weeks followed by a course of radiotherapy. I am relieved by this diagnosis and have been very positive.

A couple of days before the results I began experiencing random sharp pains throughout my body, primarily on the side of the tumour including from the affected breast, shoulder, hip, arms and legs including wrists and ankles.

I thought this was likely an anxiety/stress response while I was waiting for my results but it seems to be getting worse. Obviously I am a bit worried there’s something else going on that hasn’t been picked up and my mind is doing overtime thinking there’s another form of breast cancer lurking in there which has spread to my bones.

I’ll phone my breast care nurse on Monday but wonder if anyone has any experience of this? I suppose I’m looking for reassurance that it’s psychological!

Take care all

Hi Rua,

Thank you for your post and I am sorry to see that you’re worried.

I am hoping my response will help our member to share their experience. In the meantime, please remember that our breast care nurses are here and happy to talk things through.

Sending you our warmest wishes,

Zoe

Hi Rua,

It could potentially just be your body reacting to stress. What did your breast care nurse say?

Have you tried doing any very simple gentle yoga moves to try to relax your body? Different kettle of fish (but stress induced) when I had a secondary scare I suddenly developed a sensation of sharp needles being stuck into the back of by knee joints…turned out to be eczema for the first time in my life!

Given it all seems to be down one side it might also be worth making an appointment with your GP to discuss it, just in case it’s something related to nerves (i.e. nothing to do with the bc)?

Hoping there’s a simple explanation and that the pain goes soon.
