Hi everyone,
Ten years ago I had a benign radial scar that was removed and I didn’t think much about it. Back in May this year I noticed a dent on the side of my right breast when I raised my arm. It seemed that the scar tissue from surgery and getting older had caused the shift but after an MRI and two lots of biopsies, low grade and intermediate DCIS (9mm) was discovered and a lumpectomy recommended. My consultant decided to wait until the next MDT to find out more. Apparently they spent some time discussing my case and due to the large area of scarring I had a further MRI on which I am awaiting the results.
I feel so terribly lucky that nothing too sinister has been diagnosed so far but am still a little worried. My mum had DCIS and my sister hormone related breast cancer; they have both had mastectomies and are thankfully in remission. I don’t want to worry my mum so haven’t told her and my sister’s waiting for a scan on her neck that she is worried is secondary cancer. My consultant has recommended genetic testing that I am pursuing.
My husband is supportive but it’s a bit outside his comfort zone so I don’t really talk about it to him too much about it. I think it scares him.
Does anyone have any experience of radial scars and the impact the scar tissue has on future prognosis? I am told my breasts are dense too.
I would appreciate any advice.
