Hi Tracy,
Sorry for delay in responding. I have had a problem with my account.
I do hope your procedure went well?
I have been so surprised that I have had very little pain following my surgery. The worst bit was the drain, which thankfully was removed yesterday.
I am so relieved it is over, of course hoping they do not find anything else once they look at the tissue in the lab.
When do you get your results, :crossed_fingers:my appointment is in two weeks. love x

Hi Lynnie

I’m so pleased to hear you are ok and in very little pain and the fact that it is over for you :smiling_face_with_three_hearts: I’m ok too thank you, a little more sore than my previous 2 surgeries but I’m determined to not let it stop me.

Like you, I’m worrying about the results. My last results took 6 weeks, so anything less than that is a bonus.

Please let us know when you hear.

Sending love and positive vibes to you :sparkling_heart: xx

I’m in a similar situation and need advice. I was diagnosed in April with DCIS grade 3, 5cm hormone receptor positive DCIS. It took two months for my team of doctors to come up with a plan. They talked me into BCS which after thinking about I was happy with the decision. I had surgery last week but margins weren’t clear. Now my options have quickly changed. The surgeon that told me I would be crazy to take my beautiful breast for DCIS that he could take care of it is now unsure that doing a re-excision would get clear margins. Is it worth trying and following with Radiation or should I just have a mastectomy? My biggest concern is the reoccurring and also the recovery. I worry I’m not strong enough for a mastectomy. I so scared!

Good morning @cancersucks1

Sorry you find yourself here xx

I was in a similar situation, DCIS Grade 3, although at my trust they won’t check DCIS for hormone receptor and results take much longer. After my first Wide Local Excision, results took 4 weeks but unfortunately they didnt manage to get clear margins. I had a second excision and this time results took 6 weeks, again no clear margins. My surgeon was confident he could get clear margins if he operated a third time, after lots of thought, I decided it was worth a try… I am happy to say after another 3 weeks of waiting, I was told the operation was successful!! I am now waiting for radiotherapy, I see the Oncologist on Monday. All the waiting has been really stressful, I was diagnosed on 22nd December, but I am glad I went with the surgeon’s advice and expertise.

I really hope you get on ok and I am sure you will make the right decision for yourself.

Sending love and hugs to you xx

Thank you for your advice and your encouragement! I wish you lots of love and prayers during radiation. It’s so encouraging to hear of positive results.

Aw you are very welcome! And thank you for your good wishes.

I really hope you get on ok. Every person that has looked after me has been amazing, I cannot thank them enough.

All the very best to you xx

I just got off the phone with my team of oncologist and doctors after the failed lumpectomy, they are saying my only option is a mastectomy. I’m devastated! I also feel like they lied to me because they pushed me to have the lumpectomy 1st.

I’m so sorry @cancersucks1 I was really hoping you could have another excision.

On a positive note, many many ladies on this forum have experienced a mastectomy, they will be able to offer you help and advice. I had prepared myself for one as I had convinced myself they wouldnt get clear margins. I had decided in an immediate implant reconstruction.

Have they discussed mastectomy options with you?

Sending lots of love and positive vibes to you :yellow_heart: xx

Hi @cancersucks1
Really sorry to hear that your initial DCIS surgery has been unsuccessful it is massive news to digest and very scary.

I had a similar experience with 2 unsuccessful surgeries earlier this year, for DCIS having previously had a successful lumpectomy in 2020 for my other breast. I have ended up having a bilateral mastectomy with an immediate DIEP reconstruction (tummy fat is used) and i am very pleased with the results, there are options for you to explore, using your own body as I have, implants or going flat.

Having previously had a successful lumpectomy I think if there is a chance of success it is worth trying to preserve the breasts, as having your breasts is the best outcome, sadly it is not always possible and the surgeon can’t tell if they have been successful until they receive the pathology reports.

One benefit of the mastectomy is that you remove the worry of breast cancer returning in that breast and the annual mammogram with its associated anxiety.

Hope this helps and happy to answer any questions you might have x

Thank you so much for the encouragement. It’s so good to hear of people having positive results. I meet with my surgical team this week to discuss my options. Again, thank you for the encouragement.
