DCIS just digonised

Hi I am Hayley 37 and I am new in here from today So for a year I have been back and forth with breast health issues since being thrown into the surgical menopause for a gynaecology chronic health condition called Endometriosis which I have battled from my late teens and did not officially get digonised with though till early 30s.

First with poor breast health was told it was down to hormone changes and just breast pain ,then after a biopsy at the end of November 2017 I was diagnosed with a small fibrodemona in my left Breast located in lower part of the Breast under my nipple which is still there.

Early this spring I went back again to my Breast clinic before a routine check up as I had started with presenting swelling on the right and a very noticable lump on my right nipple.

Again At first It got passed off as all down to menopause Hormone changes, didn’t even do a scan ,I still could not get my head around with all changes I had already made, not on hrt why things were not settling down.

Couple of weeks ago I went back again and dug my heals in .
And On further testing which they seemed shocked at as the results came back With DCIS

These cells there abnormal but non invasive …(so far) called Ductal carcinoma in situ (DCIS) ( yes i had to copy that I cant even prounce it )

DCIS like they have said to is an early form of non invasive primary breast cancer, sometimes called pre-invasive cancer.

The cells or more classed as abnormal cells (to try and not scare you I think ) and start inside the milk duct? from what I could make out being told yesterday and information read so far .

But If it’s not treated, they may develop the ability to spread and become invasive breast cancer ?

So my heads bit all over place today .They re tested my left Breast yesterday ( the first biopsy I had on that one was 7 month ago)
Just to double check i think ,
I go back next week for those results and I can give them there dues the clinic that they are really quick with getting the results back at least .

Now a Waiting game ( few days not long one) now then go from there with whats next x

Hi Hayley,
First of all, welcome to the forum& thank goodness you were on top of the game in getting it all checked out & it would appear it has been picked up as early as it can be.
From what you say, your understanding of it all, is quite correct.
It’s quite usual for the head to be all over the place at this stage, but it does settle when you know where you’re going with it all.

Thank you Ann for your welcome . Yes even though I couldn’t figure out why things were not settling down Its still a shocker .xx

Hi Hayley

It’s Emily here from Breast Cancer Care.

I’m so sorry to hear about your long history of breast and gynecological health issues. It’s not surprising that your DCIS diagnosis will take some time to get your head around.

I just wanted to let you know that we have a few telephone volunteers who had a DCIS diagnosis at a similar age to you. If you’d like to be put in touch with one of them, feel free to give us a call on 0345 077 1893.

We also have some more information about what DCIS is in**this publication** that you can download or order.

Best wishes

Emily at Breast Cancer Care
