I had a WLE for DCIS intermediate grade in early June. DCIS was 3cm and didn’t have a clear margin as it was up to the muscle under the skin. I had another mammogram which was clear. I have been offered radiotherapy but was told it may / may not be helpful. I’m wondering if I should just leave it and see. Anybody else had this?
Did they not want to re-operate for clear margins?
If it were me, I’d not be happy with that. I had a wle, but did not get clear margins and ended up with a mastectomy, but much of my tumour was microscopic in nature and didn’t show up on imaging, so I wouldn’t be satisfied by the fact that mammography showed nothing.
I guess I am a “belt and braces” type of person, bit if it were me, I would not be happy thinking I had turned down a possible treatment if it ever were to recur … just my opinion.
Oh I guess my diagnosis was different from you anyway, as initially from the biopsy they said a 4 cm dcis, with a 1mm focus “suspicious for invasion”. After my wle, my diagnosis was changed to idc tumour more than 8cm in diameter!!!
I spoke to my BCN today who talked me through what my MDT had discussed and why they had recommended RADS as the best course of treatment for my DCIS. The consultant I spoke to on Thursday tho very nice had never met me before and I think she was going thru the motions. After speaking to my BCN I am going to go thru RADS.
