I had a mascetomy and implant reconstruction after being diagnosed with Dcis in oct 24. Got my results today, clear margins and no lymph involvement although 2 invasive cells found in nipple, 3mm and 1.25mm. I have been referred to Oncology to discuss further treatment. I do not want any treatment. I had BC in 2009 and had a mascetomy then. Do you think further treatment is necessary for such a tiny amount of cells which have been removed? I have been offered radiotherapy as a precaution. I am worried this may harm my breast implant. Anyone out there who hs had radiotherapy after an implant. Advice please.
What side affects did anyone get after having radiotherapy on the side of an implant?

Hi katqu,
Thanks for posting. It’s understandable you have questions about possible further treatment now that the results of your surgery have shown 2 small areas of invasive breast cancer in addition to the DCIS.
You say that you have been referred to the oncology team to discuss further treatment. They will be best placed to assess your individual situation taking into account your previous diagnosis of breast cancer, the treatment you have received for your current breast cancer and of course your wishes. It might help to know treatment decisions are agreed by the multidisciplinary team.
Breast radiotherapy is possible after a mastectomy and implant reconstruction, but as you say it can increase the risk of the implant becoming hard and might alter the shape of the breast. It can also make the skin less stretchy.
Depending on the type of invasive breast that was identified, other treatments such hormone therapy may be suggested for you. So it’s important to discuss all the options with your oncology team so that you can make an informed choice that is right for you.
