Hi
I appreciate this is a first world problem and I’ve been lucky in my treatment and opportunity to go on holiday.
Can I ask specifically for those who have had DCIS what you state on travel insurance?
I recently went on my first trip but ended up paying over what I should for travel insurance. I’ve since spoken to a couple of women who’ve had it and they said it only bumped up their insurance by about £15. I ended up paying £150 for a single trip with no other health conditions and no future treatment scheduled.
The All Clear insurance guy kept saying you’ve had breast cancer and I was saying it is classed as a pre cancer.
Thanks xx
DCIS is a cancer, but not the invasive type and referred to as stage 0. It annoys me when the macmillan nurses make reference to pre- cancer in my clinic, yet the websites say clearly it is a non-invasive cancer.
Anyhow, rant over. I had invasive cancer and from my experience with travel insurance, the key factors where when did you have surgery, and if you are in active treatment, such as chemo or radiotherapy. In my case, surgery was over 6 months, and radiotherapy finished. No increase in cost, that was with Admiral.
I had my op and radiotherapy for DCIS earlier this year. We have an annual policy with Admiral, we obviously didn’t travel during treatment but once the radiotherapy was done we booked to go away. All I had to do was logon to my policy, DCIS actually came up as an option to add, including a question as to whether there was any invasive cancer. My premium went up by about £3 for the year.
It’s worth having a shop around £150 for a week with no other health issues seems a lot.
