Had my mastectomy on 2nd July, home on 3rd and was out and about 2/3 days later. Drain out 9 days later. I feel fine, doing all those things I did before my op. Spent alot of time looking at catalogues for bras/prothesis etc. Now just beginning to accept my new shape.
Saw my Consultant and Oncologist on 17th July and all seem to be well. The Consultant did say they found a rather large 50mm area of DCIS in removed tissue which would definitely turn nasty if nothing was done. No further treatment required although the Oncologiust suggested I follow the Gylcemic Index Diet and Exercise. First time I heard of this diet but the internet explains it all.
So thank you to everyone for their support and for this Forum. Believe you me, it has helped me tremendously during the last 7 months.

Hi Everyone,
im new here, been diagnosed with DCIS in two places in left breast had a masectomy of the left breast (high grade cells )on the 17th july 2013 home now and drain removed, just waiting for more pathology results on the 30th July of the whole of my breast tissue and a couple of lymph nodes, i was offered a recon at the same time but i needed to get this out of the way first, feeling nervous still in shock… im 46 and was randomly called up for a mammogram , where they saw two areas of calcification in my left breast, biopsy showed dcis, but no cells in breast tissue…so im hoping these pathology results are the same…x

Diamondlady, Im so pleased that you got good news.
Julie, I am 47 & my DCIS was picked up via a routine mammagram as well. My initial diagnosis was 6 cm intermediate grade DCIS with micrinvasions. After my MX & SNB on 1st July, I was told my lymph nodes were clear & that they had found a small area of low grade invasive cancer, as well as my dcis tumor which was 6x4.5 cm. I dont need further treatment for the cancer as it was all removed with the MX.
I will be having reconstruction to both breasts in September. I have my appointment at reconstruction clinic on 6th August. As the surgeon is doing both breasts, I am going to ask him about removing my tissue from my healthy breast. That way, I cant get it again & also I will be totally symetrical. I dont know if he will agree to it, but I will ask his opinion.
Hope you are recovering well. I am getting there now, but I have an area of necrosis above my MX incision, but the surgeon thinks it will heal ok without cutting it away.
Take care of yourself & accept the help of others until you feel better.
Hugs Cath xx
Hi Kath - I tried to get MX on both breasts as I will feel 110% ‘secure’ but the surgeon wouldn’t oblige. Also that way I would feel happier with reconstruction as both would be symetrical. Also mI was told to wait a minimum of 6 months before I could have reconstruction. Still good luck to you and hope the result of the reconstruction would be to your satisfaction.
Thanks for concern and wishes,
Diamondlady
Hi Diamond lady
I can have reconstruction before 6 months as I already had implant s in. The surgeon left in my original implant after removing all my breast tissue & nipple. He says he can definately do it in september so it will be healed in time for my wedding in November.
I think the difference is that I have implants already so it is a case of exchanging them for different shaped implants.
It may not be posiblw to remove my healthy breast tissue, but I can only ask I suppose. Its more for the symetery to be honest.

Hi Dianondlady. Great news that they got everything out and you need no further treatment. Good luck with the GI diet. Take care and enjoy xxx
