Hi all. I’m new here. One week post wle for high grade dcis. Still rather tender and swollen and wondered if this is normal. I don’t believe there is an infection or seroma. I am being treated and well looked after extremely well in Leeds. I have my results appt in just over a weeks’ time. I am wondering what the pathway is for high grade dcis, whether it will just be surgery or will I be offered radiotherapy. Would I see someone else ie oncologist, to discuss this following my results or will surgery be the end of my treatment depending on result. I ask all of this as I have read a lot! In relation to reoccurrence of dcis at some point or invasive dcis and there are some areas in the UK giving rads and some just don’t and I would like to know what I need to be asking at my results appt. Hope this all makes sense! Hope someone can clarify for me. I know every case is Individual.
Thank you …KL
Hi there. I too have been diagnosed with DCIS following wire guided biopsy. I have to go in for wle a week Tuesday for removal. They ve said that I will need 3 weeks of radiotherapy afterwards. I m so scared. Anxiety is terrible and as you can see I m not sleeping. Hope you re ok x
Hi Julia1
So sorry to hear that…I do hope all goes well a week on Tuesday., and that you recover well, following rads.
I still have to wait and find out if I m having anything further. It was suggested after biopsy that this may happen…but I guess I’ll just continue that long waiting game! As I mentioned, different trusts have different pathway.
I hope you managed to get some sleep. .It can so easily mess with your mind, but try not to let it and let you mind and body relax. I found that was definitely needed before op. Take care now. KL
I had high grade DCIS twice,2000 and 2013.Both times had mastectomies, but not Chemo or R/T…however we are all different, with different surgeons.
Hi
I have also decided to come on and look for some advice.
I had my op last Wednesday - same as you, high grade DCIS and quite widespread so a mastecomy and SNB too.
I was told that at the follow up appointment they will have the results back from the labs and at that point they discuss whether further treatment is needed. My ipression is if they find any invasive cancer then they look at other / additional treatment but (as someone has already said) it varies where you are and who you’re under. I was told radiotherapy would be unlikely and more likely to be chemo…which doesn’t really fit with the literature so will ask about this if / when its necessary.
I also decided to have an implant put in at the same time (I have young children) and decided it would be easier to have something v nothing. I don’t know whether this is hampering recovery but I am really struggling to get comfortable in bed. Once I hit the pillows, I can’t move easily and find lying on back uncomfortable. Has anyone got suggestions for good pillows?! I feel like this may last a while…
Thanks J
Hi
Thanks Yvie-it’s good to speak to someone who’s been through it. I only decided on implant at last minute and thought I might do strattice later but not sure if I can face a other op!
How do you find it with clothes etc (especially at first)? I know I’m early days but already thinking I have no idea re bras and clothes that will look ok.
Julia I had a ‘mass’ (not a lump which turned out to just be glands) which on mammogram showed some calcification-at first they thought harmless but did a biopsy just to be sure and found it through the biopsy. Why did they do a biopsy if no sign of it? Have they told you whether it’ll be a lumpectomy or mastectomy?
Hope you’re feeling ok about it (as much as you can).
Jenny
@kingdom_lady how did you get on with your results - I am one of the luck ones no radiotherapy needed and because I am on HRT have to stop that so won’t have to have tamoxifen. I was very badly bruised but it’s nearly all gone now still getting stabbing sensations but much better that it was. How about you?
Hi Lambykin. …glad you’re doing much better and you don’t need rads… I’m also experiencing sharp, stabbing pains which is part of healing I’ve been told, but getting better. Yes my results were great thanks…clear margin, so no further surgery. Next stage is 3 wks rads…then back to normality!! So thankful…
Thanks for asking ?
