@emilyxxx Hello! Lovely new oncologist. I’m getting the full package of letrozole, abemaclabib & bisphosphates as I knew but it was good to have her say-it’s aggressive but you’re young & fit. I know there could be some tough times ahead (especially after hearing there’s a 24/7 number for abemaclabib!) but there’s almost a 20% uplift from this combo for me so really need to try & get through the treatment.
Did you speak to your team today as well about your appointment? Excited for you for your lovely family holiday-not long to wait! Xx
Hi glad appointment went well I’m in same treatment plan, we can do this!! yes I called and am going to start after my holiday appointment is at hospital to get first prescription and discuss side effects and will have bloods every two weeks for first two months then monthly after that xx
First day back at work today eeeek! Anxious doesn’t even come close xx
Thank you! It’s the hair, I’d be fine if I’d kept my hair, how’s yours coming along? Mines like a buzz cut all over but at least covers the scalp now probably nearly a can all over xx
@emilyxxx Did you decide to wig it or buzz? normality seems so far away without hair! I wouldn’t quite describe mine as a buzz cut yet-it’s definitely not in any rush! Really good to know we’re on the same treatment from here-we do got this xx
Hi just went with the buzz cut hated wigs when I tried them, done my first morning back in the office and it felt amazing, I hugged and laughed lots it was just what I needed xx
And yes we most definitely have got this xxx lots of love
@sheraldo it doesn’t does it! Your in same meds as me I’ve not started them all yet as delayed Abemaciclib a couple of weeks until I’m back from holiday in July, I’ve been on letrozole about 5/6 weeks and it’s been fine so far apart from aching more so towards the end of the day so fingers crossed it’s kind to you xx
Hope your recovery goes well, good luck with radiotherapy xx
Hopefully not long for you guys! yes I finished on 16/5 and have started my phased return to work it all feels so strange to be getting back to normal life! X
I want a bit of time after active treatment before I go back. I want to see how I’m coping with Goserelin, Letrozole and Abemaciclib in my system. I work 12 hour shifts (2 Days, 2 Nights) and they’re taxing enough after 17 years. So I want to make sure I’m fully ready to go back. But I do miss work and my normal life!
Yes, active treatment finished - now starting on the Adjuvant treatment. Been on Letrazole since early April . Having been seen by the Oncology team yesterday I’m starting on Bisphosphonate Medication and Ribociclib in the next few weeks.
@bally8 It’s been going well I started just a few mornings for 3 hours and working back up to full time over 3/4 weeks, it’s so daunting I cried at home the first morning thinking I just couldn’t do it, I think it’s my appearance was my biggest hang up but I can honestly say it’s been amazing everyone has been so kind I now feel like I’ve never been away, I hope my experience puts you at ease a little, once you’ve been back an hour your nerves will be gone xx
I got the results back from my lymph node clearance. They were all clear. All 32 of them! My surgeon did tell me after the operation that he “went to town” on me. 20 were from my armpit and the other 12 were from further into my upper arm. He was actually apologising when he was giving me the results because he said he over treated me. But, hindsight is a wonderful thing. I’m not angry at all.
I’m waiting on my radiotherapy planning appointment now. Has anybody got any tips to get me through this next phase in treatment?
Fantastic news I’m so pleased for you xx hope recovery is going well
I found radiotherapy a breeze tbh no soreness of the skin apart from a tiny patch about two weeks after looked like sunburn but soon healed I think my only tip is stay hydrated, but honestly compared to chemo and surgery it’s nothing to worry about the session itself is done in about 10/20 mins x
Really good to hear that you have the all clear on your lymph nodes. In terms of Radiotherapy, the one thing that I kind of wish I’d been told sooner was that you have to take your top off and it might be male radiographers that are handling your boob as they try and get you in the right position. The arm exercises are really important, I found that my shoulder got very stiff and painful from being in the one position for the radiotherapy. Otherwise it was quick and done.
The radiotherapy planning session was the longer appointment, if you’re having to hold your breath to help protect your heart ( left sided breast cancer) they run through the breathing exercise with you and help you know how long you need to hold your breath for.
I was expecting my skin to react within the first 2 weeks as advised by the radiographer, but it was more like 4 weeks after that i developed redness and blisters in my left armpit. So that was a slight surprise; it’s all healed now, but it was sore.
