Delayed DIEP reconstruction - tissue loss

Hi,

I’m 4 days post my delayed diep reconstruction surgery. The result looks amazing and I’m so pleased that I’ve had the surgery. However, sadly there is small ish part of the tissue that has turned black. My surgeon is talking about tissue loss and corrective treatment required. He will monitor this for a few weeks to see what happens. I don’t think I’ve taken in everything he was saying as I am so gutted. Has this happened to anyone else?

Hi @Sandra23 , you’ve done the hard bit, the rest is all about recovery. I haven’t had any tissue loss/necrosis but there are lots of posts around this on the American Diep Flap Recovery websites. I know this might seem disappointing and scary but it will heal its just going to take a little longer. Big hugs to you, breathe and it will all be OK xx
