deoderants

Hi

I know this might seem like a silly question but could anyone let me know what they are using for deoderant. Its just when this all happens you start to think about what you put on and in your body.

Thanks Debs x

Glad you asked that - I have given up and quite frankly I think I may smell - but not like me - more rancid!!! love FBx

I’ve given up too, just use soap and water and daily shower. Bit smelly at the end of the day but that’ the least of my worries.
Glad you asked…Wouldn’t mind knowing of any stuff out there as weather is getting warmer.

Trish

During rads I used nothing - now I am using Pitrok cyrstal.

Hi Ladies

I have been using pit Rock and found it really good got mine from Boots. There is another thread on here about deodorants which mentioned another one can remember the name (Chemo brain).

Karen

Hi

There are several good deodorants out there which are natural, i love green peoples rosemary deodorant and Holland and Barratt have several aluminium free ones, love the pit rock too, like to alternate as i think you get used to one and need to change over every so often. Sometimes i am very naughty and use just a normal deodorant if it is a special occassion and i really do not want to pong, the natural ones are very good but are not anti perspirant and i do find there is a slight smell by the end of the day if i sniff my armpits (I know too much information)!
Going on holiday on Saturday and taking a normal one for the week as it will be boiling in Spain! With the sweats and flushes it is like my whole body smells!

HI Girls

I asked about my BC nurse about deodorants. She said to use what I wanted, and that there was no proven link between aluminium & cancer. Her words “If there was everyone would have cancer & they dont !” Its a good point, I was really worried about this but havent found a aluminium free one that keeps pongs at bay.

Never mind , will be on Rads all through the height of summer & seating away unchecked. I pity my OH

Love to all

I had given up on deodorant way before I got BC. I now find that I only sweat on the good side and not where I’ve had the surgery. I hardly have any underarm hair on that side either, just a few wisps. Somebody radiotherapy kills off your sweat glands.

i use perfume free one called mitchum ive not been told not to use any as such its just i read in my information about bc to use perfume free ones x

I use Bionsen which is aluminium/paraben free. x

When i worked in Boots the surgeons used to send their breast cancer ladies to us for alliminium free deo and told them just to use them. I had to phone head office and i spoke to the top prof there. I asked him about it and he explained.
Sometimes in some women the alliminium can buidl up in little pockets around the breast. These then sometimes go on to possibly cause cancer. He said there was no way of knowing if its building up in yourself so best thing to do is not use ones that contain it. Now, this came from the top dog and would rather go by what he says and some surgeons than a nurse.I use the crystal stick thing and find it really effective.

Pineapple-As a nurse I find your comment pretty offensive

Hi,

I use crystal spring natural body deodorant which is available from holland and barratt. I think it works and it lasts for ages and its aluminium free.

Sorry mollyb, it wasnt meant to offend anyone.

Hi,
Am finding all this strange, I havent been told anything about deodrants or any products not to use. I dont seem to be getting any information only thing i’ve been given is the green file when diagnosed.

Interesting. I thought the reason we shouldnt use deoderant had to do with the tests.
BCN told me that deorderant shows up on ultrasound, or scans
so not to use it

but i use the reg stuff each day
actually
i have another question
why cant we use perfumed stuff

Emilyxxx

I’m using a sure rollerball - because that way I can completely control where it goes (look in a mirror) and can avoid the scar for the lymph node removal.
Why can’t we use perfumed stuff? Can’t we? I have been. Will I grow another head?

Hi girlys

I wasnt using any deodorants whilst i was having treatments(chemo and rads)since 2006…i am just conscious of the sensitivity of our skin and got used to not using one until mid 2007 and early 2008,i went back to using my Dovee roller for sentsitve skin, alcohol free.

Now that i am undergoing treatments again since Apr08 operation,im not using anything again…Just pure water helps, wash often and no perfumes/scented to avoid irritation of the skin.In hot summer days, i always have a soft handkerchief or bandana to wipe off perspiration and to freshen up.Eve n better with cold water…

HI all

Thanks for the advice, I must admit i haven’t really been told anything about what sort of deoderant to use which is why I asked also I am starting ot hear things about what to avoid in my diet but not from anyone at the hospital… Although I must admit I don’t ask much either, the trouble is when I have to go I am only interested in getting the blood test done or the chemo or whatever it happens to be and getting the hell out of there again!!! Got far too many more interesting things to do. Hope you are all doing ok
