detox of liver to cure hot flushes

Hi, im very new to this forum but already i have identified with so many of you that are all going through the same traumas as me. At present I have just come off tamoxifen following a mastectomy 5 years ago. I have also had a hysterectomy 3 years ago. The flushes and night sweats are relentless, and because my cancer, like so many of you is highly hormone receptive, i am unable to take practically anything to help. i went to see a herbalist who has suggested de toxing my liver as a starting point of allowing my body the chance to combat the flushes and other symptoms itself. Im prepared to give it ago. it involves 3 weeks of taking a herbalist concoction that basically makes me go to the loo very regularly. Then on the 21st day drinking smoothies from 2pm, followed by a final concoction that evening. The next day should, im told produce some interesting results which can then be analysed. At this point the liver will have fully discharged anything that is stopping it functioning fully. Thus from this point, it can do its job. I will post on how im doing and if its successful or not. It may just help someone else.

I hope you didn’t pay money for that advice from the “herbalist”?

do you have to change what you eat during this regime?? most detox remedies cut out certain foods.

I dont think there can be any harm trying herbal remedies. My first question would be though–do you buy the concoction from a chemist or do you you buy them from the herbalist.I am always a bit suspicious of any alternative therapist that does not only charge for their time but also for the things they are saying you should take.

Ladies, please ask for a list of all ingredients of any herbal remedy and double check with your oncologist or gp that the ingredients are safe to use in conjunction with any medicines you are currently taking. You could find that an ingredient isn’t supposed to be mixed with your medicine and could stop your medication working!

There are quite a few herbal things that shouldn’t be taken with Tamoxifen, e.g. black cohosh, that are commonly used to counter hot flushes. As said before, please take great care, to avoid spoiling the effects of the standard meds you’re on. Personally I’d prefer to trust Tamoxifen than snake-oil…

Hi just reading your post and you say that you have recently come off of tamoxifen after five years so I would think the hot flushes and sweats would gradually stop now?.or is that not the case.

Best wishes Melxx

Hi I have just spent the last week taking the herbal tablets that make me go to the loo. They contain nothing that would potentially cause harm. ( I know that I cant take black cohash and many other similar products that may imitate the effects of oestrogen) I didnt have to radically change my diet, although I was advised not to eat wheat- which im trying not to do. The herbalists advice was completely free- I must have been there for 45 mins. At the end became very emotional as he just seemed to know the type of person I was. Im certainly going to the loo more often- so it seems to be working. For me, this is about helping my body help itself after taking tamoxifen. This isnt something I have wanted to do, or would consider doing if I was still taking medication. I think I would be frightened that I was somehow flushing out the benefits it gave me!!
Is it worth it yet…Ill let you know

well you know, i go to a chinese doctor, as do the whole family. we are quite down to earth people and are bemused that we have faith in his needles, head massages and hot candles.

we came to a group decision that it might be the medicine or it might be that some people are natural healers and whatever path they choose then if you feel attuned to them and have faith in them then it will work.

so if your herbalist is making you feel good and you have confidence that he is attuned to you then go for it.

Thanks for all your comments, I too am very down to earth, but having exhausted every possible solution- apart from needles!! I am willing to try. At least I feel as though if I am actively doing something its got to be better than doing nothing at all.
Best wishes to all out there.
