well…it was a VERY late night for me… but i still woke up at 5 am so i expect i shall do sleepy again this pm. enjoyed my night out tho!

my sons appear to have devoured the contents of the fridge again so i will have to go to the supermarket again!

YOH EJ - starting rads… the end of formal treatment is in sight!!

My arm is quite sore and bruised where the bloods were taken y/day - hopefully by the enxt time i have to have them the vein in my elbow will have recovered but for the moment it is well 'ard… i have visions of it being the grant mitchell of veins…

Onc nurse yesterday suggested putting hydrocortisone cream on the edge of the rads patch where it is most itchy - it worked y/day but not today!!! GAH…

Later people… later…

Hi Jen,

Just reading the above about the itchy rads patch.
I used piriton on a couple of occassions which worked really well. I was worried about scratching the area when I was asleep, especially as it also involved the mastectomy site which was numb so I wouldn’t be aware if i had scatched it - if that makes sense.
I did mention this to the nurse afterwards. She was quite happy about it but couldn’t officially recommend it as she wouldn’t know what individual peoples reaction to piriton would be.I already use piriton for insect bites etc so no problem … just an idea you may want to check it with the nurse.

morning Jen and Magsi
how are you both doing? have to admit I am so not looking forward to rads. have my aloe vera ready…may place it in the fridge if that helps. just keep reminding myself that both doctors that I have trusted with my life, in effect (onc and surg) recommended this radiologist doctor. OH has insisted on driving me today for the first time at least; so much for independence! I am very determined to do this on my own if I poss can.

aloe vera is cooling EJ but aqueous cream seems to be more moisturising… and rads are just another thing we do and get over… hmmm why is my shoulder itchy???

magsi - tried emailing u and it bounced back - is your inbox full??? might try taking piriton tabs - i would rather not use hydrocortisone cream which can thin the skin…

ach is 1.38 pm and i need to sleep. AGAIN

Jen, well done you on finishing the rads, you on tablets now or what?

Good luck today Em, I am sure you will be grand.

I hear you are off on an Odyssey holiday Jen, you lucky thing, I’d love to do one will see if onc will refer me at next appt.

Just making myself sick looking at property I can’t afford, thing is we talked about emmigrating but it’s doubtful now with the BC, bloody typical.

Pipe dreams you gotta have them LOL

Jen & Em

Just whilst we are talking about rads, something that I wasn’t told about until I discovered it was a sore patch on my back. It was towards the end of treatment and on the way home on the tube as I leant back it hurt.
There was a small red patch, nothing major but when I asked about it, I was told that it was the exit point.
Having put the rads into the chest they have to get out - makes sense I suppose and worth knowing in case you also have a sore bit.

magsi and jen and lisa
thanks magsi - with that in mind will not be surprised if something shows up. It does make sense.

Jen - since aqueous cream is not offered here, there must be a reason, so while it is very frustrating, will go ahead with aloe vera. have also bought vit e and cocoa butter creams, but may not use them.

lisa - where were you thinking of moving to? the price of housing is ridiculous everywhere, really. But your health is prob more important than moving. I seem to remember some folks on this forum who made a major move mid-treatment, emelle?, and did not regret it. But its all very individual.

ok, off to wash a few more clothes and get some things done around here and get out while I can!

hello alll…

i only woke up a few minutes ago… i feel pleasantly dopy and it’s up the chippie for tea.

my rads treatment was with electrons which are only supposed to penetrate 3 or 4 mm - but yes… i suppose they have to go somewhere!!!

you can apply to odyssey yourself - does nto have to be trhu doc - u just need to be ‘under a consultant’ - i love that phrase!!

where do you want to go to Lisa? somewhere nice so that the DDI coach trip can come too!!! Will BC make that much difference? my friend jane emigrated to NZ and loves it.

Magsi - ty for PM - will email again

Just open the fizz - raising real glass to you all!

Only cos you fancy our consultant Jen, dont worry she still loves you Gareth x x

Hi Ladies and Gents

You all sound well, real fizz at tea time I like your style Jen. Can’t wait to raise a real glass when we all get to the Lakes. OH is worried he’ll only be allowed a virtual pint LOL!!

Lisa, where are you going. Don’t leave us now we were only just getting to know you.

EJ, good luck with the start of the end, yippy yo will soon all be over.

3 more sleeps till OH is home, I can’t wait I miss him really bad.

Hi I am Sue. I have just had reconstruction (2 weeks ago) and am just waiting for chemo to start really nervous mostly ok then bursts in to tears for no reason! is this normal?? Staying at my parents whilst recovering from op. but dying to get home (this weekend) to get back to my partner and a bit of normality. Is anyone out there??

Hi Sue

Welcome to the best pub in town. This superb establishment was started by Jen [rjenr2] who remains on the management committee. Her OH is Gareth [Jensbloke] and he is our trusty barman but if he’s not about just help yourself.

Catering is generally sorted by our American friend EJ [she cooks the best muffins] although others have contributed.

We are a friendly bunch and the DDI is famous for its endless stocks of whatever you fancy to eat or drink cos there is no alcohol in our virtual drinks and no calories in our virtual food so fill ya boots and enjoy

Gareth

One of your finest champagne cocktails for Sue please, pull up a stool at the bar and let your troubles be washed away

Finest Champagne cocktails? That infers (or implies) that I produce cocktails that are less the finest.
However - moving swiftly on - Welcome Sue - A champagne cocktail as ordered - please take a seat and enjoy the hospitality of the DDI

Gareth.

Hi,

Really nice to meet you all. The champagne cocktails are delicious here!!

I am staying with my parents at the moment as only just came out of hospital after my surgery and am getting killed by kindness!!! I am dying to get back to my OH (Paul) and resume normality!!
