Dew Drop Inn Too

Virtual calories? I like REAL calories! I’ll make the tea - the water board are digging lots of holes - but seem to have forgotten to cut off my water!

G.

lets hope they dont dig through a pipe then!!

Settling IN!!! theyre bloody chickens - not wrinklies in a Florida retirement home…

JB’s right (copy & paste that G - you may need it as evidence in future) - he does like real calories!!! hehehehehe I’ll give you biting sarcasm!!! AM JOKING - he’s sylphlike really

Don’t get me started on happy chickens - Hugh Fearnly Watshisface nearly converted a town to free range birds - Until they found out they had to pay £8 a bird Instead of £2.00 at Tescos.

G.

chickens can be happy - but not if kept in a metal cage the size of a piece of a4 paper. I’d personally rather pay more for my bird than know it lived like that. That’s why my lamb tastes so good I reckon - they’ve not been commercially farmed, had every problem dealt with as soon as it appeared and are happy, not stressed and it’s reflected in the quality of the meat

I know, I bought a chicken from my local butcher instead of tesco, cost me £9 [nearly passed out] and it was the scragiest looking thing you’ve ever seen, barely fed 3 of us.

Have gone back to tesco, still use my butcher for other stuff but not chickens!! I have stopped buying the super cheap ones though and go for middle ground now.

here here westie, so say all of us

omw AJ - was it organic or summat?

toasts smallholders with her delicious mug of vanilla coffee

OH had better come home with flowers for me today

Thats so true and so would I, hes a bit contraversial this morning isnt he?

or the manure will really REALLY hit the fan in this house. If he loves me he’d better do it.

Bessie - he’s always controversial is our JB - he’s the square peg in the round hole!!!

I dont know but it was disappointing to say the least. I am all for local produce and supporting independant retailers etc but I do need value for money as well.

our lamb taste so good my dad and brother have been converted, they never liked lamb before, now they love it, just goes to show how far a bit of tlc with livestock can go

Its a bit of a leap from chickens to lamb.
While I agree that your lamb be it organic/free range, whatever, benefits from being farmed in a more ‘sympathetic’ way, I do not believe that the same yardstick can be applied to poultry, and the average family, struggling to make ends meet on a limited budget, does not have the luxury to support organically farmed birds.

I know - the problem is supermarkets have “loss leaders” and independent retailers just can’t afford to lose money on any of their goods. Wee shops are under pressure on so many fronts - even newsagents. If you subscribe to a publication and it’s posted to your door the newsagent misses out. I get my local newsagent to order my mags and keep them for me (Landrover Owner International, Scottish Farmer and The Smallholder!)

grg - meeting aunt at track end in 15 mins - oops!
