Im currently on 16mg every day spoke to oncologist this mornin he was like oh just cut it to 4mg??? Prob is since they reduced my dex last time my eye turned and i have double vision hence they wacked it back up to 16 it eased the slightly. He said as long as i dont mind the side effects keep it at 16 then??
Is anyone else out there taking such a high dose everyday??? I start rads on my skull next week cause even though scans didnt show anything major (dont really know what thet showed i was so bored of taking about it) they think there maybe something putting pressure somewhere??? oH the vaguenss!
Whats the longest we can take dex at this level anyone know??

I asked one of our nurses about this and here is her reply:
‘The steroid dexamethasone will be tailored to each persons medical case so its good you have discussed this with your oncologist as doses of this strength are not unusual and may need to be taken until symptoms lessen. Remember you can also talk through concerns with our helpline nurses, Monday to Saturday 0808 800 6000.’

Hi Lynne,
You can take up to 20mg of dex for as long as you need to. If you have been on it a while, to drop to 4 just like that is a bit quick - your adrenal glands don’t produce your own natural steroids when you are taking dex (or any other steroid) and it takes them a while to start reproducing again, hence the weaning off stage… If however you’ve only been on them a few days (like when you’re having chemo and you have 3 days to help combat sickness and allergy) it’s ok to just stop…
