Dexamethasone before docetaxel

I’ve been reading that taking dexamethasone the day before seems to be the usual protocol. However, there seems no plan to offer that to me. I have a telephone appointment exactly 24 hours before my day 1 chemo of TC. I rang the cancer centre who confirmed the telephone appointment where the nurse will go through the information. I will have dexamethasone before the chemo on the day. Does that sound like it is just an alternative way of doing it? I can ring the CNS phone line next week to check with them also. (Trying not to worry about everything!)

I took mine 24 hours before, but one of the nurses mentioned that IV steroids on the day is sometimes used as an alternative

@bluecat1 - It could be down to your particular hospitals protocol,
if you are concerned ask if you can speak to your oncologist before chemo , however if not given the day before , then they will give your steroids into your line on the day before treatment starts as this is how I had mine.
If you aren’t able to speak to your oncologist ask to speak to one of the doctors who will be covering the day therapy unit just to clarify .

Hello! Apologies for hijacking this thread but I cannot for the life of me work out how to post my own question and the starter guide just keeps telling me to press a ‘new topic’ button that simply doesn’t seem to exist for me anywhere

Is this maybe because my account is new? Seems odd to not allow new people to post asking for help though? Anyway, can someone help me figure out how to post my own question please? I usually use reddit as it’s wayyyyyy simpler but loads of folks there are in the US and I have a specific NHS question.

I also find it very confusing. Have managed a couple of posts but have forgotten what I did. So watching for responses to your query.
I thought it was just me.

It is very confusing, I’ve never seen a forum work this way before! It honestly seemed easier to find things just by googling the term and adding ‘breast cancer now’ before I had a login lol

I agree that this forum has a bit of an odd layout for this type of discussion group. I think it’s because the style that would suit is considered “old fashioned” and the software has moved away from that style.

Anyway to post a question you need to find the button labelled +new topic. See it here after Top.

Click that and post your question. You will need to decide what is the best category, or topic area, to post your question

See the thread on the Welcome section for lots more information on using the forums.

Hi @genericuser1, welcome to the forum.

Yes the reason you can’t post as soon as you create an account is to deter spam. We had a spam attack in January and put measures in place so that users can’t open an account and immediately start a new thread. They can join an existing thread, but to start a new thread the system needs to detect they’ve done a degree of browsing that indicates they’re a real user.

Have you been able to post the message you were trying to post over the weekend?

Ah thank you, that makes sense, appreciate you getting back to me. And I found my answer elsewhere but the ‘add topic’ button is now appearing for me so when I have my next question I can post it! :grinning:

Hi @bluecat1

Thanks for posting asking if you need to take dexamethasone the day before having docetaxol chemotherapy.

Some hospitals may prescribe steroid tablets, such as dexamethasone to be taken for 3 days starting the day before chemotherapy, as @arty1 and @flower have said it may also be offered as an IV and may vary from hospital to hospital. If you haven’t already done so do contact the CNS phone line to check.
