Dexamethasone crash

“dexamethasone”

Does anyone else experience a steroid crash around day 4/5 after treatment? I’m finding I get v low and upset and I’m sure it’s a steroid crash.

Yes, I’ve experienced that too. The low and upset feeling around days 4/5 is definitely a common side effect of dexamethasone. It’s tough, but it usually passes after a day or two. Make sure you’re staying hydrated and eating well, it can help with the crash.

Thanks so much for replying, I’m on cycle 2 and there’s a def pattern to how low I feel on these days. I will mention it to the oncologist before my next cycle. Last time it lifted so I’m hoping it will tomorrow x

Hi @stafford22 I hope you’re feeling better today

100% raise this with your team, it’s important for them to note your side effects so they can keep monitoring. You can call/ask the nurses on the forum if you need an answer quickly too, or if you’re just looking for some general support they’re all really lovely.

My personal experience with the steroids - yes, I would get a “crash” too, the days I was on them I would be physically shaking as though I’d had 10 cups of coffee. This meant I was going at 100 times an hour when I should have been resting, so the days off the steroids just hit really hard physically and mentally. It’s all (fingers crossed) temporary, if you have family/friends, maybe let them know how this is effecting you and if there’s anything they can do to keep an eye on you when you’re feeling low :sparkling_heart:

Thank you. I have mentioned it to my bcn and she is going to attend the next oncologist appt with me. The nurse also thinks the steroids are impacting my antidepressants x
