Hello,
My wife is currently receiving treatment for secondary breast cancer and I would like to ask a question to the forum before I speak with the oncologist.
My wife’s cancer is caused through estrogen/hormones and she gas had recent brain surgery due to the spread. My question is that if the cancer is growing through the hormones feeding it etc us dextramethasone not a hormone and will name this worse, the reason I ask is that her condition gas deteriorated since taking them. I know this might be a coincidence but I wanted to ask.
Thankyou in advance mark
Hi Mark,
So sorry to hear your wife’s cancer spread to the brain. I hope the surgery has gone well for her. I believe it is the norm to give dexamethasone when the brain is involved. It is a steroid and will help reduce the swelling around the brain tumour and improve some of the symptoms that had been caused by the tumour. Of course the downside is that all these things also have side effects. Particularly with steroids is the problem with them keeping her awake! and also increased appetite. You do of course need to talk to her oncologist and make sure with all new drugs he explains why she is being put on them.
Dawn
Thanks Dawn, sorry about the spelling it’s this phone correcting my words, honest.
