I was diagnosed with breast cancer 2 weeks ago after having a routine Mammogram. The results of the biopsy show grade 2. I have a hospital appointment on Friday to have a ‘Magseed’ inserted into my breast. I have googled ‘Magseed’ as I didn’t think to ask the Consultant what it was. From what I can gather, it’s a tiny magnet which can help the Surgeon during the lumpectomy. I have also been told I will need to have a radioactive injection close to my surgery time. Has anyone else had to have this?
I had magseed put in to mark my breast tumour as it is small. It acts as a marker for the surgeon. Did not have a radio active injection so cannot say what that will be like but again it highlights any suspicious lymph nodes to help your surgeon. I hope your op goes smoothly.
i had a radioactive injection on the day of the surgery. It is a very easy injection in the breast, i hardly felt it. It allows to identify , which nodes to be removed for the testing- it is standard procedure.
the fact you got grade 2 is pretty positive. I hope all goes really well.
I had surgery ten days ago and had a magseed marker inserted whilst in the mammogram machine six days before surgery, it was a simple, quick and almost painless procedure. It is used to mark areas of cancer which are not externally visible and replaces the practice of inserting a guide wire on the day of surgery.
I also had the injection for detection of sentinel lymph nodes. It was done by my surgeon about two hours before my operation. It was a bit uncomfortable having an injection close to the nipple followed by the surgeon massaging my breast for five minutes afterwards to make sure the injected substance made its way to the lymph nodes. That was a very surreal experience, having my breast massaged whilst having a conversation about the Queen’s funeral
