Diagnosed and confused

Hi

I was diagnosed last week with Grade 3 Invasive ductal carcinoma and booked in for a lumpectomy. Today I was called back to the hospital and told my operation had been cancelled because the results of my biopsy were unclear, the don’t know what the cancer is and they are getting a second opinion. Has this happened to anyone else?

I feel like I’ve been on a rollercoaster of emotions for the last few weeks and this has really thrown me. I don’t know if I’m coming or going and it would be good to hear from someone who has had a similar experience.

Thanks Niki

No that hasn’t happened to me. I did get told I had a benign breast lump called a fibroadenoma that was taken out in day surgery. It turned out that was cancer after it was sent to the pathologists. That confused me a lot as the tests before that said it was benign.

Cancer docs don’t seem to be that good at communication. If they gave you a bit more information that would help. A quick phone call just to let you know why they have changed their minds so drastically.

More uncertainty means more imagination of what could be worse. Try and find out why they now think you don’t have ductal cancer
