Diagnosed in Feb and op beg may

Hi everyone,

After a referral from my GP following finding a lump in my left breast I was sent for the usual checks. I had also expressed concern over an area on the right hand side as well. I had a biopsy done on the left and that was confirmed as cancerous and they then asked for further tests on the right as a number of calcifications were showing on the outter part of the breast. I was sent for an MRI on both and following that a biopsy on the calcifications. It seemed that the radiographer wasn’t concerned with the calcifications however she’d spotted another area which she deemed suspicious. So she took a biopsy and once again I was left waiting for results.

The inevitable happened and it was found that I had cancer in both breasts. The rh side was 18mm and left 9mm. As far as I’m aware they are both oestrogen and progesterone +

I have yet to be told regarding the rh breast

So the operation was scheduled for 11 April and then following my preassessment on the morning of 6th April, my appointment was cancelled due to dr strikes.

My bcn called me the following week and asked how I was and if they had looked after me on the ward. She had no idea re the cancellation and promptly contacted admissions to determine a new date. And to add to the mix - a new consultant surgeon. So it’s now scheduled for 3rd May.
The op will be a bilateral excision on both sides. The rh side will be wire led and then if the surgeon manages to get the margins I will be having radiotherapy and the anti oestrogen tab for approx 5 years. I certainly didn’t order this ‘present’ when I turned 60 yesterday

I have treated myself to some wonderful primarny pjs and bought myself a couple of nursing bras. Think I must have looked like the oldest mum to be in Tescos

Id love to hear from anyone and perhaps we can share some advice as well as some laughs to get us through this difficult time

Happy Birthday Lynn , welcome to the forum . Not the present I would have chosen either !!!
How awful to have your op cancelled , I just wanted the cancer out as soon as possible and it was a great relief when the op was over . I’m 8 years on now but I still very clearly remember how awful the first few weeks after diagnosis were . I got alot of help and support here on the forum and I’m sure you will too .Maybe also post in the Just Diagnosed section of the forum ? Best wishes Jill x
