DID YOU TELL YOUR PETS NAME?

This is a security risk, especially if you use your pet’s name as a password or an answer to a question safeguarding your email account.

Sorry to be a party pooper but we all use the internet for so much of our personal business nowadays that I think we need to be wary.

Taken my post off the thread, sorry.xx

I must admit I was horrified when I saw that the moderators had allowed this thread to remain. Pet’s name is one of the most common secret answers to reset passwords on many accounts.

I wonder how many of you used it as your password here?

I think everybody should be wary of divulging info such as mother’s maiden name, pet names, middle names etc. as this information is commonly used for identification purposes.

Scaremongering again - chill out

Thanks for that Maryfrod, I’ve been feeling so guilty all afternoon for starting the thread as it was supposed to be a bit of fun and something to chat about.

It’s not scaremongering.

Bit of fun it should be-- we have enough to get on with - so leave them to it

there are alot easier ways for people to get personnal information than to trawl through a breast cancer website!!!

Exactly

Oh dear

Whatever next! I do agree that we have to be careful with personal information, but this was only in good fun. I would hope that any bank details etc would need more than a pets name??? Now, on the other hand, if they wanted breast cancer diagnosis, they would be on to a winner.

The site does not disclose email addresses so it would take a fair bit of determination to be any risk, I think this is pretty unlikely to compromise anyone’s online security as so many more details are needed. Also, it’s far more likely to be abused by someone who knows the person in real life, not the cyber-life we conduct here.
