Hi there,
I’m relieved to be home after my left side mastectomy with immediate diep reconstruction and my right mammoplasty. Obviously, I’m sore and movement is difficult. I have a seroma in left breast and possibly in tummy too.
My biggest worry is that there is a numb patch on my outer left thigh. It feels numb mostly, then suddenly it’ll be prickling and stinging from a small movement. Sometimes it trembles too. The stinging pain is awful and makes me call out.
There’s no swelling, redness or pain on touch. It doesn’t seem like I have any dvt symptoms.
My surgeon and the nurses dismissed it and said to kust keep an eye on it. Well it’s getting worse. Obviously, I’ll mention it to my team.
Is it possible that this is nerve damage? Could a nerve have been severed in diep, that affects the leg? I can’t find anything on Breast Cancer Now or the Internet, except a couple of references about nerve pain in the actual breast.
Thank you
Hi bluesatsuma
Thank you for posting.
It is understandable that you have questions about the numbness, pain and trembling that you are experiencing in your outer thigh following your DIEP surgery.
It is difficult to know what is causing your symptoms but as the symptoms are getting worse and causing you to ‘call out’ in pain it is important to be assessed again. We would suggest that you call your breast care nurse or treatment team to ask for a further assessment and review as soon as possible.
We offer a range of free supportive services for anyone who has had a diagnosis of breast cancer which you may be interested in.
