I had a mastectomy with a diep reconstruction in Oct 22, more recently I have noticed lots of fluttering/twitching type sensations on the left side of my operated area on the stomach, they only last for a few seconds and then recede. The only way I can describe it, it feels like the first movements a foetus makes in early stages of pregnancy, has anyone else experienced this?
I asked my surgeon but he couldn’t give me an answer why this was happening.
Thanks
Hi,
I had my diep reconstruction september 23. I know exactly the feeling as i get it too…i ended up taking several pregnancy tests even though i knew it was very unlikely. I just put it down to me being more aware of my body and just normal movement inside our bodies xx
Hello to you both, I was diagnosed with TNBC in May 21, had 6 months of IV chemo, then left mastectomy and all lymph nodes removed end of Dec 21, then had 15 sessions of radiotherapy, then was offered 6 months of oral chemo, which I accepted.
I was totally against having reconstruction, my body had been through enough, my partner of 5 years, said to think about it, gut feeling was he’d rather I have it done, also for my confidence. It would be a diep flap reconstruction, it would be nice to loose my tummy, make it more flat, I’m just worried how the reconstructed breast would like and if they’d uplift my right, so they’d be of similar size.
I have a consultation on the 25th April.
Any of you lovely ladies been through this? I’d appreciate your thoughts xxx
Hi there,
I had a mastectomy with immediate diep reconstruction in Oct 22. It was one of the hardest decisions I have ever had to make but for me it has been the right decision.
I had many questions that I needed answers to prior to my surgery. During my consultation with the surgeon i expressed my fears and worries.
My reconstructed breast is different to my other one. When clothed you can’t tell any difference in size or alignment. Without my bra it looks completely different to the other breast, I have no nipple, the size matches the other breast but is slightly higher than the normal breast, I have been advised this will age and drop naturally. It feels soft like breast tissue. I think the surgeon can give you a lift on the other breast to align them.
Please check with the surgeon if you are at higher risk of developing lymphoedema if you have had lymph nodes removed as this may affect the way the breast feels.
Ultimately the decision should be yours. Your body, your choice. You are the best person to decide on how much more intervention your body can cope with.
All the best and if you need any more advice please message me.
Take care
Thank you Sab53 for responding, it is very useful to know. My left arm is slightly larger than my right, as no lymph nodes, but not enough to wear a compression sleeve. I am worried about recovery due to healing.
Did they offer you to uplift the existing breast?
How did you find the recovery part? Some say 6-8 weeks, and some 3 months?
Regards, Jo

It’s like weird little twitches, right? I had similar sensations after my DIEP, especially in the first few months. I think it’s just your nerves healing and reconnecting, though it’s definitely odd. My surgeon couldn’t explain it either, but over time, it did get better. If it doesn’t get worse, it’s probably just part of the healing process.
Yes! Little twitches, flutters, palpitations, can almost liken it to early stages of pregnancy. Pregnant I am definitely not!!
It’s weird though as my op was Oct 2022 and I didn’t get these sensations after the op, its been more recently that I’ve started feeling and noticing.
