Diet and cancer: Food for thought

I was diagnosed with ductal invasive carcinoma 2:2:2 in September 2015 and much like everyone else I guess , I was shocked and have been riding a gigantic Ferris wheel of change ever since. I’ve always been a documentary/non-fiction sort of person as opposed to a drama/novel type and so with time on my hands I started to read and watch sources of information about many subjects.

One documentary film in particular made such a huge impression on me that I inspired me to search on other similar ones as well as reading material. I’m not writing this with the intention of advocating anything to anyone but feel that if anyone is interested t hey might want to watch the film and make up their own mind, personally after usually being pretty blasé about life and health, I have completely changed my diet (after consulting with my oncology team first of course) and intend to continue with it for life.

The inspiring documentary is called “Forks over knives” and was made by two doctors whose paths crossed after individually researching diet and its influence on illness (cancer, heart disease and others).

The film is available on the official website www.forksoverknives.com it is currently available on Netflix and YouTube have it.

Sistely understanding to everyone !

By the way, my diet is presently dominated by Taxotere rot gob!

Ok, there is an abundance of info on the thread regarding research into cancer and diet. Being new to here I hadn’t really explored the threads when I posted but for anyone who hasn’t even considered diet re cancer, the documentary is a starting point for anyone interested.

The research thread is well worth ploughing through if you are concerned about the diet link.

You should have a look at the China Study too, Lizzy. Similar message to FON, but fascinating reading for anyone who has had a cancer diagnosis. My friend is an NHS dietician & their recommendation is don’t change your diet at all, unless it has too much fat & sugar ie standard advice for anyone.  I find that extraordinary, but it’s difficult to do proper research on diet because people don’t tend to stick to them. xx

Hiya bibi.
On the secondary threads under bone Mets we have a wonderful lady called babsy who posted a diet regime which she has spent a huge amount of time researching. It’s a very strict regime but there are a lot of interesting detail. The post was posted yesterday …23rd may if you want to have a look.

My son who has what seems to have studied his whole life around human nutrition, sent me this text earlier when I asked him his opinion on a particular study. “Remember though, she’s based in the US and they can give their cows hormones whereas they are banned in the EU. So this milk/ dairy we have will be different. I wish I had all the answers mum but the research just isn’t there yet to prove anything conclusively like that. From the studies Iv seen there was no epidemiological evidence to link dairy with breast cancer. In fact one study Iv just seen showed a Trend between dairy and decreased risk of colorectal cancer so it’s very difficult to point at one particular food group as cancer causing. Particularly when there are so many other variables. He does have a masters in human nutrition and practices what he preaches but I trust his knowledge and holistic research and I wanted to share his response to me.(I hope he doesn’t mind me quoting him” ?) xx just as a thought though I did bring him up on the mantra “everything in moderation” but as we all know it’s not always easy. Big hugs Buster1 xx
