Different brand of Letrozole

I wonder if you can help - I have been on Letrozole for just over 6 months and after achy start and bit dizzy felt fine after first month. I now have persistent lower back pain and generally feel bit sick and ‘off’. I have just had a scan with no progression and tumours have shrunk in size. The only thing I have noticed is that I have been prescribed a different brand of Letrozole from Accord to Sun - could that have made any difference?

Thanks in advance.

Definately. I switched brands several times and have ended up with Accord. The best of a bad bunch. But at the moment there still might be a general shortage of all meds so you may have to try several chemists.

Thanks for that I was beginning to think I was going mad!!

Hi michellem55

Thank you for your post.

It’s good to hear that the symptoms you experienced when you first started taking letrozole have improved, and that your recent scan shows your tumours have shrunk in size.

We do hear from some women who notice a change in the side effects they experience, if they take letrozole made by a different manufacturer. Letrozole is made by a number of different manufacturers and some of the tablets may contain different additional ingredients such as preservatives. You can discuss this with your treatment team or GP or ask the pharmacist who dispenses your prescriptions if they can supply you with letrozole from the manufacturer you feel suits you best. As @oldgirl says, changing the brand may make a difference to your side effects.

If you continue to feel unwell and experience lower back pain that has no obvious cause and hasn’t gone away, do talk to your treatment team or breast care nurse.
