Different side effects on subcutaneous Herceptin ??

In 2006 I had Herceptin IV for 12 months. Following a recurrence in 2011 I have been on Herceptin IV for 3 years. I’ve now had 2 subcutaneous Herceptin treatments. Not sure if I am imagining it, I’ve now started a diary but I am feeling increasingly fatigued. I run regularly and I am really struggling, my legs feel heavy. I ran the London marathon in April so I am unsure if this is why. Maybe my legs and body still recovering but in my heart I feel it’s the subcutaneous Herceptin which I have injected into my legs. Anyone else swopped from IV to subcutaneous and suffering with more side effects.

I changed from iv to sub-cut a few months ago, and apart from the first one which felt like a ton of bricks falling on me I’ve not noticed anything new. I get fatigued for the first few days, always feel cold, have a dry cough and a bit of diarrhoea, but I had all that on the iv. The latest is that my finger nails are flaking and splitting, and I think that’s new, but it may just be cumulative. Not sure.

What do others think?

Well done on the marathon!

Food for thought. I have now finished my herceptin bot for the injection they give a standard dose to everyone whereas when through I’ve they weighed us and adjusted the dose accordingly. I raised this with my onc and said this is now standard and same dose works for everyone I am large so I will be having a weaker dose if smaller you will be having a stronger dose. To verify speak to onc might explain differnt reaction. I found that the injection being weaker due to my size had less side effects.

Thanks Pammyx and JaneyW it’s good to hear how others are feeling. I see my Oncologist in mid July so will discuss then if no improvement. Even if it is the Herceptin hopefully the side effects will lessen with time. Best wishes to you both for the future.
