Dizziness and vertigo

I’m in my second year of taking tamoxifen following my breast cancer diagnosis !
I’ve been getting recently bouts of dizziness when bending down and also when I turn over in bed, this can last for weeks and then disappear only to come back again !
Was wondering if anyone else experiences this and is it a part of the menopausal change my body is going through ?
Any advice ?

Hello Juleseyb,

About 6 months ago, when I wanted to get out of bed, the room spinned and I was so dizzy. It was so frightening and I didn’t know what was happening to me…went to A&E

Was diagnosed with BPPV - Benign paroxysmal positional vertigo

You could get further info if you search on the net!

It happened to me again after 2 months…

As far as I was know and was advised by my dr. … this condition is not related to Tamoxifen or part of menopausal symptom. For me, it was due to the dislodgement of crystal at my inner ear.

Normally, you would be referred to an ENT - Ear, Nose and Throat doctor

Hope that this helps.

Take care, Belle xxx

Hi Julesy and Belle. I have the same. It’s definitely BPPV in my case, with symptoms exactly as you describe. I was taught by my GP to do a repositioning manoeuvre, which does work but also induces the vertigo a bit. I get one or two attacks a year. This last one has left me feeling worse for longer, but my GP thinks it’s linked to stress/work hours. The manoeuvre is on line. But have someone with you! X

Hi Juleseyb

I’ve had occasonal bouts of benign postional vertigo for about 15 years - usually brought on by overtiredness (when at work) and now by decorating (looking up at ceiling and down at paint pot!) now I’m retired. Happens about twice a year on average. Nothing to do with hormone tablets in my case as I’ve only been on them since Feb this year, and haven’t had an increase in the vertigo. GP gave me tablets when first diagnosed, and since then I just need to take them for a couple of days if vertigo is bad. Mostly i just tryn to remember not to move my head around suddenly and it sorts itself out.
