Dizzy 5 days after op

Morning. I had lumpectomy and sentinel lymph node biopsy on the 6th of November. I feel a little dizzy during the day. Mostly in the morning when I wake. I went to my drs yesterday as I was stressed but they said I was ok.
I know I am a overthinker, just … lol
Is this normal
Thank you

It can happen - it can take a while to fully get over the anaesthetic and I felt wobbly myself for a week or so afterwards . Dizziness often is worse in a morning as you’ve been laid down all night and your body has to compensate for you suddenly moving about - but at the moment it’s under stress trying to heal your physical wounds and process the stress of the last few weeks / months and basically it’s trying to do too much at once. Try to drink plenty of water especially in the morning as you might be a little dehydrated still and eat regular small amounts of food if you don’t fancy a full meal. Take a bit of gentle exercise but rest if you feel you need to - I downloaded and listened to Headspace at one point when I was resting as I also have a tendency to overthink . When you’re sitting down practice turning your head gently from side to side to help retrain your balance . Have you been prescribed pain killers ? They can cause dizziness and tiredness as well . If you don’t feel any better after a few days then go back to your GP and you could also speak to your BCN . Xx

Hi wicko123

It is natural after a breast cancer diagnosis and surgery to feel stressed and wonder if the symptoms you have been experiencing after your lumpectomy and sentinel node operation are normal. It’s early days and there will be a lot to think about physically as you recover from surgery as well as emotionally.

It is good to hear you have seen your GP about the dizziness you have been experiencing post-surgery, and it sounds like they have reassured you. Also, as @JoanneN mentions there are a number of reasons after surgery when dizziness can be experienced and she has suggested some ways of helping. We would suggest speaking to your GP or breast treatment team if you don’t feel better or your symptoms do not improve.

Talking to someone who has had a similar experience such as a lumpectomy and sentinel node biopsy can often be helpful. Our Someone Like Me service can match you with a trained volunteer who’s had a similar experience to you. You can be in touch with your volunteer by phone or email and they can share their personal experiences to answer your questions, offer support or simply listen to how you are feeling.

You can ring the Someone Like Me team on 0800 138 6551 or email them at someone.likeme@breastcancernow.org, so they can then match you to your volunteer.
