I was just wondering if our bloods are measured to check how much cancer is there ? I’ve noticed on the American site they all go on about blood markers my oncologist has never mentioned anything.x x

Hi Julzd - my oncologist doesn’t use blood markers as she says they’re not that useful for my disease. I know that some ladies on the Forum do mention them though.

Thanks, mines never mentioned them I was a bit confused I don’t have bone Mets so I was wondering if they were used for those. X x
Hi, I am not 100% sure what the markers are but I believe it is something in your blood that cancer changes and they can measure. Before I received the SBC dx I was diagnosed with blood clots in lungs and liver, a rare side effect of Tamoxifen, but my onc said that the blood test also showed slightly elevated markers which would suggest there was possibly cancer in my body. He was right further scans showed lung and bone mets in Oct this year.

Thanks sue I’m going to ask next time I’m there what mine are x x
My Onc says that the markers are not always usefull as you can get false readings. Mine are negative yet they know I have tumor in my spine, so they don’t use them to assess if treatment is working.
Thanks maybe that’s why mines never mentioned them because I think my bloods are normal but then again I panic everytime I go he could say anything I wouldn’t take it in . X x x
Redridinghood .I was diagnosed primary in Feb no lymph nodes had lumpectomy fec chemo from May to Sep then month of radiotherapy week to go with radiotherapy they spotted something on xray sent me for ct I had liver and lung Mets so soon as radiotherapy finished put straight on decetaxcol h and p . I’ve still got three docetaxcol to get after the scan next week so hopefully it’s going ok x x x
