Do you still get pain?

Hi, I tried to join this site while I was receiving treatment but for some reason had problems doing so. However, I used to browse the forums and found the advice given really helpful. I also found it comforting (for want of a better word) that I wasn’t the only person going through this. I finished my treatment in February 08 and had the all clear in May. I was walking on clouds, as you can imagine. Since then, I am still feeling very positive but I also get low periods where I worry that every ache or pain is cancer again. Does anyone else still have pain in their treated area? I am trying to change my diet to a healthy one and have heard that I’m not supposed to eat soya! Not sure why. Does anyone know? Does that include soy sauce? Do you know of anything else I should avoid? Any advice would be great. Thanks, Beth

Hi Beth

I’m finding this time (after treatment) a difficult time too. I get aches and pains and worry about them and don’t like to say anything for fear of them being something! Re soya, it’s most likely to do with the fact that your cancer was hormone positive. If so, then some people think you should avoid soya based products - not 100% sure of the reason but it’s possible it could stimulate the cancer to grow. I had a mastectomy and I sometimes get the odd ache and pain in that area - it’s very delicate and sometimes feels a little bruised.

Sounds like you are doing really well.
Best wishes

If you’re like me you’ll have aches and pains all over the place for the first 12mths.I put them all down to after effects of the chemo (I had Taxol) I’m now nearly 5yrs down the line and yes I still worry about the odd ache or pain.Re soya my tumour was triple neg so I went dairy free whilst on chemo. It certainly hasnt done me any harm as I didnt have a good prognosis and have beaten the odds by still being here and cancer free.

Thankyou both for replying. I am ER+ and on Tamoxifen. I’m glad I’m not the only person to worry about the aches and pains and it’s heartening to hear such positive stories.

Thanks again

Hi Beth

I finished treatment November 21st 2007, WLE, Chemo, Rads. Yes I still have pain, upper arm numb with prickly feeling due to nerve damage from Node removal, and just general aching and soreness in the breast and surrounding area. Apparently common after rads.

Re: Soya - it contains jigh levels of oestrogen like substances called phyto-oestrogens. They are thought to mimic oestrogens in the body, hence soya being recommended for women going through menopause. That said if you are ER+ then it is recommended by many to avoid consuming large ammounts.

Take care - hope thing steadily improve for you

Thankyou v much. Hope all stays well for you too

Hi all

Glad to read all your comments on numb toes etc due to chemo.

Had 12 doses of chemo last year one which included Taxol. Finished Nov.07 but suffered with numb toes, aching feet all last year. GP thought it down to diabetes symptoms. Did not know Taxol could do this. Will bring this up on next GP appt.

Still suffering sore feet, love to walk but not very far. Does this ever get better??
