Doctors appointment

I am at the half way stage with my FEC and I have a doctors appointment tomorrow…anyone else have a drs. appointment at the half way stage and if so what was it all about? I will find out tomorrow but was just wondering.

Hi Babyboo

I haven’t been asked to attend my GPs but I have popped in to see her again I think after my 3rd FEC just to make sure they were up to date with my treatment.

Although I wasn’t best pleased when she kept referring to my “lung cancer”

I shall let you know why I had to go and see him…it is the head man at the breast clinic…gulp…I am a bit fed up with taking my top off in front of medical staff though!

Oh… I know, it’s getting cold too!

It was just my GP I was checking in with, so do let me know what they say.

Well, my oncologist sees me every week so far… to check on the blood progress and all follow up. I don’t know if it is current practice, but I really like the TLC and attention… She only checks the new blood stats (just taken by the nurse), has a chat with me, and sees that I don’t need anything more.

I saw my onc the week before each of my FEC sessions

Hi

I have only had 2 of my FEC sessions, 1 to go then Tax x 3. But have an appointment to see onc a week tomorrow (12). No idea why, just presuming its for check up, but on what don’t know, as not got any more scans … bit worried about it actually, but piling up the questions to ask him.

Take care all

I know what you mean about worrying…whenever I have seen a doc about this cancer it has only been bad news…

Yeah me too babyboo. Both times have had bad news. First was dx with bc, second time told had gone to my liver. But heres hoping 3rd time lucky and will be good news.

Take care

I dont think seeing the onc is necessarily bad news… it seems to be good practice really. I see my onc every time I have chemo, so that’s 5 times so far and I’ll see her again tomorrow! She asks how Im getting on, about side-effects etc. and organises all my other bits and pieces, i.e. one week I signed the Herceptin form and another week organised my radiotherapy planning, so there is always something to do!

I think seeing the onc regularly is a great thing because it helps to break the cycle of associating them with bad news and then if the bad news does come I think that at least I will have a good relationship with her, I must say I feel blessed to have her, all the women love her, she is so down to earth and kind, she will give you as much or as little info as you want and is quite happy to discuss the latest research if you want! She says she will discuss anything that is on my mind regarding my treatment. I must say that the onc being a woman helps a lot, as she seems so much more understanding of things from a woman’s point of view, there is no embarrassment talking about worries or fears, like the psychological effect of having one breast or the menopause! I know that all women doctors arent like this though and there are some great male doctors out there too.

Take care everyone.

Babyboo, hope your appointment is as good as mine have been (if that doesnt sound really ironic given the terrible circumstances for most of us).
