Iv finished chemo now but something has stuck in my mind,i was so happy that the cancer hadnt gone through nodes but then my bn said but it can take another route…So y celebrate it not goin through nodes?I didnt ask at the time but its stil on my mind.Xsarahx

Hi sarah I KNOW ITS VERY HARD AFTER TREATMENT ALL THE FEAR IS HEIGHTENED. TRY NOT TO OVERTHINK STUFF. WE CAN WORRY AND WORRY ABOUT THE RETURN AND WASTE SO MUCH TIME,You could cross the road and be knocked over nothing is certain.iI was first diagnosed back in 2004 and spent a long time worrying then I LOST A FRIEND WHO DROPPED DOWN DEAD and hadnt had any cancers or previous health problems. It gave me a kick up the bum to get on with stuff, I am here if you ever want to talk sending love and hugs xxxx

Thank you for that…I think its starting radio still being tired that negative thoughts push their way forward…But your are right thank you.Xsarahx

hi sarah,

i am not surprised that comment stuck in your mind, what exactly does another route mean,

you have got me thinking now, as my nodes were clear, could you maybe find out and pm me,

dont worry about it if you carnt, i was under the impression that once you had surgery, chemo, and rads it was unlikely that any stray cancer cells could survive anyway,

thats how i understood it to be, i wouldnt give it another thought too negative for me,

all the very best to you good luck with the rads i start mine on the 9th of june,

lots of love liz xxx

What the nurse meant was that cancer can spread via the bloodstream as well as the lymph nodes. This means although someone may have clear lymph nodes, there is still the possibility that cancer cells (micro-mets), could be in the blood.
However, if you have had chemotherapy, the chances are any micro-mets would have been destroyed (which is why they give it).

Sarah, read LG’s reply and then read it again. And then read it again. Chemo is there to blitz any cancer cells that MIGHT have toddled off under their own steam via the blood stream, so you’ve done the very best you could possibly do, and still haven’t finished shaking the stick at cancer because radiotherapy blitzes any cells that might be left in the breast too, and is a seriously effective treatment for cancer.

Thank u all4replys i think i understand now also i asked a mcmillian lady at the radio department2day and she said tumours have blood vessles attached2them which is what the bn was meaning…And cells can leave via them…Which is y we have chemo2 zap any strays…Xsarahx
