Hello Everyone!
I remember using this site when I was first diagnosed and going through the ‘wall of fear’ feeling very alone. As a result of looking in the ‘meet-up’ section I now have invaluable friends and through them have learnt more about breast cancer than I thought possible; I have a treatment plan I can live with and have been lucky enough to get access to very new, ground breaking tests and surgical techniques, all by talking to people and using this site. Not bad for the price of a coffee!!
If anyone out there in Bristol would like to meet up, likes Italian food and is free at 6.30pm on September the 18th just shout! We none of us bite and would love to meet you.
Becky xx
Hi Becky
I live in Bristol - finished FEC-T chemo 6 weeks ago and had WLE 10 days ago - rads to follow. Would like to come along if possible. Could you PM me with details of your meet up? Many thanks.
Sara x
Hi Sara,
Good to hear from you, I hope you are feeling well today. It would be good to meet you, we are meeting at Don Giovanni’s italian restaurant, which is near Temple Meads station, from 6.30 on Tuesday 18th September. Will PM you too just to be sure!
Kind regards
Becky x
I’m in Bristol. I might try to join you all another time, but the 18th is a busy day for me:- I have my PICC fitted, then a meet with my oncology team, then bloods etc. Followed by my wig fitting! I think I will be ready to drop after all that.
Have a good evening though.
Hi June,
Good luck with everything on the 18th, sounds like one heck of a busy day!
Will make sure we post on here the next time we plan a meet-up or event.
Take care
Becky x
Becky - hope to be there. I’ll PM you if for any reason I can’t make it. Look forward to meeting you all.
June - good luck for the 18th. If you’re going to the wig lady at the BRI, she’s lovely - just perfect for the job she does. Hope you find a wig that you like.
Sara x
Thanks Becky and Sara, yes it is the BRI wig people I am to see.
Today, bang on schedule (day 14 after chemo 1) my hair started to drop. So, I got it cut close to my head banded in ponytails so that I can send it on to the Little Princess Trust charity. Then my lovely other half put his electric clippers over the resulting tufts, and now I am ready for my wig fitting ![]()
As soon as it starts to look bald in areas, I’ll shave the rest off.
Have a good gathering,
June22
Hello,
Im in Bristol and would love to meet up on your next meeting
Only just signed up to the site.
Ive had my first chemo, my second is Wednesday. So far its not been as bad as I imagined, however I got to day 14 and yep the hair has started to shed - I also tried the cap but I didnt have high expectations.
I would love to meet up with people in the area so please do keep me posted.
Any tips or hints to get me through this is much appreciated ;-))
Hi Emma32, I am in Bristol.
I didn’t go to the last gathering as I had a busy day of Oncology stuff, but maybe the next one will have better timing! I should have my 3rd FEC on the 12th OCT so I am just ahead of you. I go to Whitchurch Health Centre for my chemo, as parking there is much easier. It is an outreach of the main Oncology Centre.
I still have to go to the Oncology Centre for health check ups… maybe our paths will cross there one day.
There is also a message thread on this forum for ‘undergoing chemo - starting in September’, which is quite active, and they have started a closed facebook group where messages are kept light and positive. We still share all the main stuff through this forum, as it has been so helpful.

Hi all, i’m in Bristol too.
what is te FB group called? I started chemo in August but had to change regime in Sept after a bad traction to FEC.
S xx
The FB group is a closed group, so if you find it you might need to request membership.
/
It is called The September Ladies as it is mostly forum members who started chemo in September, and follows on from the list on the forum for ‘starting chemo in September’.
(But all Breast Cancer members are welcomed. I actually started chemo on the last day of August, but the August Forum group is quiet, so I call into both lists.) We still use this wonderful BCC forum, the FB thing is just positive sharing of images, good events etc.
If you can’t find it, let me know, and I’ll ask someone to send you an invite somehow!

Hi all - I’m in Bristol too.
Is there a Bristol FB group?
I had my second FEC chemo last week - 4 more to go. I’m being treated at home (by Healthcare at Home) so don’t get to visit the oncology department unless there’s a problem - I don’t know if I’m out of the loop or whether there is no loop to be in regarding events and such!
Pegglass
I don’t know of other FB groups Pegglass, there may well be some!
I’ll try to send you a Private Message with the link to the September Group, and you are welcome to request to join it. I think there are 2 members from Bristol on it, others are spread around different counties. It is only a small group, and is ‘closed to public’, so only members can view messages there.
PS I didn’t start the group… just happened to mention it on this message thread.

There is a local FB group which has members from Bristol and Somerset. The aim is to get together for fun activities and it is not a support group as such as we all have or have had breast cancer and are not medical professionals. It is a closed group and is called Somerset CanDo. We meet up in Bristol every month or so (as in Becky’s post at the top of this thread) and there are other activities such as weekends away.
Look forward to meeting some of you at one of the events!

Bumping for juliemax hope it helps
Hi. I am new to this site and live in Clifton Bristol.
I had 2 mastectomies in the 80’s but would still like to meet up with anybody who has this horrible disease. You never lose the need for reassurance I find and perhaps it might help others to meet someone who has lasted many years. i know when I was diagnosed at the age of 39 it helped me tremendously to meet women who were still here a number of years later
I read that people meet at Browns for lunch but could meet up in Fishponds or elsewhere as I have a car.
Regards Mo x
Hi Billie14, I haven’t been to any of the Bristol get togethers yet, but I think if you join the closed Facebook Group as mentioned above by AnneG, you might hear more about dates of meetings.
This thread on the Forum is quite quiet.
The name of the Facebook Group is Somerset CanDo
I hope this helps!
June22 - also in Bristol
To Sara, June22, Emma32, Luvvie66, Pegglass and Billie 14 - and anyone else in Bristol
Yes the Somerset CanDo FB group is more active now than the thread on here and someone is currently organising a Fishponds lunch for next week. I can’t go to that but usually make most of the lunches in Bristol.
Hope to meet some of you at an event soon.
Anne
Thanks Anne. I have put in a request to join the Somerst CanDo group on Facebook. It just said ‘join group’ no room to give any information. So I guess I just wait now. It will be great to meet you all some time. Regards Mo xxx
You have probably by now received a reply asking for a bit of info about yourself. The administrator does this to protect us, as occasionally there are people who are not genuine who try to join - sad but true.
I will look forward to meeting you at one of our events soon
